The San Francisco Bay Area is the metropolitan region surrounding San Francisco Bay, taking in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and the peninsula between them. This category reads differently from a city roster, because it is not a roster of celebrities: it is a working census of people currently building software companies in the region, most of them founders whose companies are one, two or three years old and were funded in a recent accelerator batch. Background
The region's technology industry runs from the semiconductor firms of the mid-twentieth century through the personal computer and internet eras to the current concentration in artificial intelligence. What separates it from other technology centers is the density of early-stage capital and the accelerator model, which turns a two-person idea into a funded company on a fixed calendar. Achyuta Iyengar and Jai Yarlagadda founded Mica AI, Arko C founded the inference infrastructure company Pipeshift, Anders Lie co-founded the open-source coding agent Magnitude, Jannik Grothusen founded The Robot Learning Company, Adarsh Ambati founded the human risk intelligence company Haleum, and Runbo Li co-founded the video generation platform Magic Hour.
