Bonnie Watson Coleman attended Rutgers in Camden before finishing her undergraduate work elsewhere, and the university's Center for American Women and Politics organized a 2026 event marking the close of her sixth term. Nellie Pou studied at New Brunswick between Kean University and the University of Virginia. Darren Soto carries the Rutgers credential into a Florida congressional seat. George Norcross attended Rutgers in Camden and built an insurance business alongside a role in South Jersey Democratic politics.

Milton Friedman won a scholarship to Rutgers, arrived intending to study mathematics and become an actuary, and left in 1932 with a bachelor's degree in economics and mathematics after being taught by Arthur Burns, later chairman of the Federal Reserve, and by Homer Jones. Bernie Marcus took a pharmacy degree at Rutgers before co-founding Home Depot. Harvey Schwartz took his bachelor's degree at New Brunswick, spent more than two decades at Goldman Sachs rising to chief financial officer and then president, and became chief executive of The Carlyle Group. Haris Sahmanovic holds a computer science degree from Rutgers and went into startup founding.
