Category:Famous Penn State alumni
Pennsylvania State University is the commonwealth's land-grant institution, with its main campus at University Park and a network of campuses across the state. Its roster on this wiki looks less like a national alumni list and more like a state delegation: most of the members hold or have held public office, and most of those seats are in Pennsylvania. The people who are not officeholders are almost all either media executives or defense and technology founders, which makes this one of the narrower and more legible university categories here.
Pennsylvania's delegation
Five members of this roster have represented Pennsylvania districts in the United States House of Representatives, and they do not agree with each other about much. Brian Fitzpatrick served as an FBI supervisory special agent before his election. Charlie Dent represented the 15th district from January 2005 until his resignation in May 2018 and described himself as a centrist Republican. Guy Reschenthaler is an attorney, a former judge and a Navy veteran who has held the 14th district since 2019. Scott Perry, a retired Army brigadier general, has held the 10th district since 2013. Summer Lee, an attorney and social activist, has held the 12th since January 2023.
State and city office fills out the same block. Bill Peduto served as Pittsburgh's 60th mayor from 2014 to 2022 after two decades in the city's politics, and R. Seth Williams served as District Attorney of Philadelphia from 2010 to 2017. Two members carried Penn State degrees into office in other states: Kelly Ayotte served as New Hampshire's attorney general and then its United States senator before becoming its 83rd governor in January 2025, and Joe Heck, an osteopathic physician and retired Army major general, represented Nevada's 3rd district from 2011 to 2017.
Media, finance and defense
The non-political membership is small and specific. Linda Yaccarino came up through NBCUniversal and served as chief executive of X Corp. Ira Lubert wrestled for the Nittany Lions and built a career across private equity, real estate and gaming.
The most recent addition to this category is a pair rather than an individual: Jason Cornelius and Steve Messinger co-founded Perseus Defense, which develops low-cost guided micro-missiles for countering unmanned aerial systems, and both are aerospace engineers out of Penn State. Roksana Baleshzar came from Sharif University of Technology to Penn State and co-founded an AI governance platform for regulated enterprises. That trio is the visible edge of a defense and engineering pipeline that the officeholder-heavy roster above it does not otherwise show.
