Haris Sahmanovic is an American software engineer and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Forge, a B2B startup that helps companies recover tariffs and duties paid on imported goods through an automated duty drawback process. Forge participated in Y Combinator's Winter 2024 batch.[1]
Early life and education
Sahmanovic holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University.
Career
Prior to founding Forge, Sahmanovic worked as a backend engineer at Facebook (now Meta) and Vanguard.[2]
Sahmanovic co-founded Forge alongside his brother, Emir Sahmanovic, who serves as the company's CEO. Emir previously worked as a lead engineer at Blue Origin and Stoke Space, where he was involved in designing, building, and testing rocket engines. The two brothers founded Forge out of frustration with existing processes in their respective industries.
Forge focuses on automating duty drawback, a customs process through which companies can claim refunds on tariffs and duties paid on imported goods that are subsequently exported or scrapped. According to the company, billions of dollars in eligible refunds go unclaimed each year because the claims process is complex and labor-intensive. Forge takes full ownership of the workflow, from organizing import and export data to filing claims with customs authorities, allowing businesses to recover these funds with minimal internal effort. The company states it can help clients recover up to 99% of import taxes on qualifying goods.[1]
Forge operates in the supply chain and logistics sectors and incorporates artificial intelligence into its platform. The company's technology stack includes TypeScript, Kotlin, Java, PostgreSQL, and AWS. Forge is based in New York City and operates as an in-person team.
In June 2024, TechCrunch reported that the Sahmanovic brothers had raised $2 million in funding for Forge.
