Isaac Toscano is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of RetroFix AI, a workflow automation platform that enables users to build automations using natural language. The company was part of the Y Combinator Summer 2024 batch.[1]

Early life and education

Toscano studied Materials Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His co-founder, Daniel Portela, also attended MIT, studying computer science.

Career

Toscano co-founded RetroFix alongside Daniel Portela. The company was initially conceived as a platform to help building contractors source and apply for tax incentives and sustainability credits related to building decarbonization. In its original form, RetroFix aimed to serve as what the founders described as a "TurboTax of building rebates," using artificial intelligence to navigate regulatory constraints and compliance in the energy transition space.

The company was accepted into Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch and participated in demo day in September 2024. Subsequently, RetroFix pivoted to become a broader AI-powered workflow automation platform. In its current form, RetroFix allows users to describe desired workflows in plain English, after which an AI agent creates, tests, and monitors the automation end-to-end. The platform integrates with over 2,800 applications through pre-built actions, and in cases where a pre-built integration step is unavailable, the AI agent can write code to access application APIs directly.[2]

RetroFix is categorized in the artificial intelligence, software as a service (SaaS), and workflow automation sectors. The platform is based in San Francisco and, as of its current stage, operates in early access. Its target users include freelancers, AI agencies, and other professionals seeking to automate repetitive tasks without extensive technical configuration. The platform offers features including a workflow builder, browser agents, knowledge bases, AI chatbots, and coding agents.

Prior to the pivot, Toscano discussed RetroFix's original sustainability-focused mission in interviews following Y Combinator's demo day, noting that he and Portela had identified a significant imbalance in the incentives landscape for building decarbonization and sought to address it through AI-driven tools.
