Caroline Manzo (née Laurita; born August 23, 1961) is an American reality television personality and businesswoman who rose to prominence as a cast member on Bravo's The Real Housewives of New Jersey. A resident of New Jersey with deep roots in the state's Italian-American community, Manzo became known for her outspoken demeanor, family-centered values, and no-nonsense commentary during her five seasons on the show from 2009 to 2013. Following her departure from The Real Housewives of New Jersey, she starred in her own Bravo spin-off series, Manzo'd with Children, which ran for three seasons before its cancellation in 2017. Beyond television, Manzo has been involved in various business ventures and authored a book. Her family connections — including her sister Dina Manzo, brother Chris Laurita, and sister-in-law Jacqueline Laurita — have kept her intertwined with the broader Real Housewives franchise narrative, even years after her departure from the series. In recent years, Manzo has spoken publicly about the downsides of reality television, offering cautionary advice to prospective cast members of new Housewives installments.
Early Life
Caroline Manzo was born Caroline Laurita on August 23, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York City.[1] She grew up in a large Italian-American family. Her siblings include Chris Laurita, who would later also appear on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and Dina Manzo (née Laurita), who became a Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member in her own right.[2]
Caroline married Albert "Al" Manzo, a businessman from a prominent New Jersey family. Al Manzo operated The Brownstone, a well-known catering hall and event venue located in Paterson, New Jersey.[3] The Brownstone had long been a fixture in the local community and became a recurring setting on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Through her marriage, Caroline became connected to Tommy Manzo, Al's brother, who later married her sister Dina — a union that would eventually become a source of significant family conflict and legal controversy.[2]
The Manzo family's connections in New Jersey drew media scrutiny early in the run of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. A 2009 article in The Daily Beast explored the family's background, describing aspects of their history in the context of New Jersey's colorful social and political landscape.[4] The New York Post also reported on Al Manzo's business dealings and political connections in New Jersey.[5]
Caroline and Al Manzo have three children together: Albie, Christopher, and Lauren. All three children appeared prominently on both The Real Housewives of New Jersey and the family's spin-off series, Manzo'd with Children.
Career
The Real Housewives of New Jersey (2009–2013)
Caroline Manzo was an original cast member of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, which premiered on Bravo on May 12, 2009. The series, set in northern New Jersey, followed the lives of several women from affluent Italian-American families. Manzo appeared as a main cast member for the first five seasons of the show, spanning from 2009 to 2013.[6]
On the series, Manzo was portrayed as the family matriarch — a strong-willed, opinionated woman who served as both a confidante and a voice of authority among the cast. Her interactions with fellow cast members, including Teresa Giudice, Jacqueline Laurita, and her sister Dina Manzo, formed many of the show's central storylines. Manzo's family life, including her husband Al's management of The Brownstone and her children's various pursuits, was featured extensively throughout the series.[3]
The show's early seasons drew significant ratings for Bravo and helped establish the Real Housewives franchise as one of the network's flagship properties. Manzo's role on the show often involved mediating disputes among the cast or offering pointed commentary on the behavior of others, which earned her a reputation among viewers as the "mama bear" of the group.
In October 2013, it was announced that Manzo would be departing The Real Housewives of New Jersey after five seasons. E! News reported the departure, and The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed the news.[6][7] Her exit from the show set the stage for her own spin-off series on Bravo.
Years after her departure, Manzo reportedly turned down an offer to return to The Real Housewives of New Jersey. People magazine reported on her decision not to rejoin the cast.[8] In November 2022, there was speculation about a possible return involving Manzo and fellow cast member Dolores Catania, though Manzo did not ultimately rejoin the show.[9]
Manzo'd with Children (2014–2016)
Following her departure from The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Manzo starred in her own Bravo spin-off series, Manzo'd with Children. The show focused on Caroline and Al Manzo's family life, particularly the experiences of their three adult children — Albie, Christopher, and Lauren — as they navigated careers, relationships, and the transition to independent adulthood.
The series premiered in October 2014 with back-to-back episodes. The premiere attracted over 1.6 million total viewers, a solid debut for the network.[10]
Manzo'd with Children was among a slate of Bravo programming announced as part of the network's upfront presentations in 2015. Deadline reported on Bravo's lineup, which included renewals and new series orders across the network's reality television portfolio.[11] The Wrap also reported on Bravo renewals that included the show during this period.[12]
The series ran for three seasons before being canceled in 2017. Us Magazine reported on the show's ending, and NJ.com also confirmed that Manzo'd with Children had been canceled after its third season.[13][14]
Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip and Later Television Appearances
In January 2023, Bravo announced that Manzo would be among the cast for a season of Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, the franchise's crossover vacation series that brings together cast members from different Housewives cities.[15] The filming of the show became the subject of public controversy, as fellow cast member Brandi Glanville later revealed that drama stemming from her interactions with Manzo during filming had significant personal consequences for her. In April 2025, Glanville spoke publicly about the toll the situation had taken on her mental health, stating that the drama had led her to contemplate suicide.[16]
Book
In August 2012, Entertainment Weekly reported that Manzo had secured a book deal. The book was expected to draw on her experiences as a mother and her perspective on family life, themes that had resonated with viewers during her time on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.[17]
Views on Reality Television
In the years following her departure from regular television appearances, Manzo has spoken publicly about her reservations regarding the reality television industry. In June 2025, she offered a warning to cast members of the then-upcoming Real Housewives of Rhode Island, expressing that she was no longer fond of reality television and cautioning new cast members about its potential negative effects.[18]
In a separate interview covered by Collider, Manzo specifically cited the case of her former co-star Teresa Giudice, who served time in federal prison on fraud charges following her appearance on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Manzo described Giudice's legal troubles and imprisonment as a cautionary tale about the dangers of joining the Housewives franchise, suggesting that the heightened scrutiny and pressures of reality television could have devastating real-world consequences.[19]
Personal Life
Caroline Manzo is married to Albert "Al" Manzo, with whom she has three children: Albie, Christopher, and Lauren. The family has been based in New Jersey, where Al Manzo has operated The Brownstone, a prominent catering and event venue in Paterson.[3]
Her daughter Lauren Manzo (married name Scalia) gave birth to a daughter, an event that was covered by Bravo's official media channels.[20] Her sons Albie and Christopher have also pursued business ventures, and the family's life in Hoboken, New Jersey, was the subject of media coverage during the filming of their various television projects.[21]
Family Feud with Dina Manzo
One of the most publicly documented aspects of Manzo's personal life has been her prolonged estrangement from her younger sister, Dina Manzo (also known as Dina Cantin after her second marriage). According to Us Weekly, the sisters' feud dates back to at least 2012 and has been intertwined with broader family conflicts involving Tommy Manzo, Al Manzo's brother, who was previously married to Dina.[2]
The family conflict gained renewed public attention in May 2025 when Dina's daughter, Lexi Ioannou, spoke publicly about trauma she said she experienced at the hands of her stepfather, Tommy Manzo. TV Insider reported on Lexi's comments, in which she also addressed the state of her mother's relationship with Caroline.[22]
In response to Lexi's public statements, Caroline's daughter Lauren Manzo spoke out, addressing the claims made by her cousin. Lauren's response was covered by multiple outlets including Yahoo Entertainment and Reality Tea.[23][24] The ongoing family dispute has been described by Us Weekly as involving elements of "obsessions, divorce, and a hired hit man," referencing the criminal case surrounding Tommy Manzo, who faced legal proceedings related to an alleged assault on Dina and her second husband.[2]
Continued Connections to RHONJ Cast
Despite having left The Real Housewives of New Jersey over a decade ago, Manzo has maintained relationships with some former cast members. In February 2026, Reality Tea reported that Melissa Gorga, a longtime RHONJ cast member, had an impromptu reunion with Caroline and her daughter Lauren.[25]
Recognition
Caroline Manzo's prominence stems primarily from her role in the Real Housewives franchise, one of the most commercially successful reality television franchises in American television history. As an original cast member of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Manzo helped establish the series during its initial seasons, contributing to storylines and dynamics that drew millions of viewers and generated significant media coverage.
Her spin-off series, Manzo'd with Children, attracted over 1.6 million viewers for its premiere episodes, indicating a substantial personal following that extended beyond her role on the ensemble Housewives cast.[10] The show's three-season run on Bravo represented a notable achievement within the reality television landscape, as many Housewives spin-offs have had shorter runs.
Manzo's book deal, announced in 2012 by Entertainment Weekly, reflected her crossover appeal and the public interest in her perspective on family, motherhood, and the reality television experience.[26]
Her media presence has persisted well beyond her active years on television, with outlets such as Yahoo Entertainment, Collider, Us Weekly, TV Insider, and Reality Tea continuing to cover her opinions, family dynamics, and interactions with other figures from the Housewives franchise as recently as 2025 and 2026.[18][2]
Legacy
Caroline Manzo's tenure on The Real Housewives of New Jersey placed her among the original cast members who helped define one of the most prominent entries in the Real Housewives franchise. Her portrayal as a family-oriented matriarch who was unafraid to speak her mind created a distinctive persona within the reality television genre. Her years on the show, spanning from its 2009 premiere through the fifth season in 2013, encompassed a period of significant growth for both the series and the broader Bravo network.
The success of Manzo'd with Children demonstrated that Manzo's appeal could sustain a standalone series, a distinction shared by relatively few reality television personalities from ensemble casts. The show's focus on the Manzo family's dynamics — particularly the relationship between Caroline, her husband Al, and their three adult children — offered a different perspective from the conflict-driven narratives that often dominate the Housewives franchise.
In her post-television public commentary, Manzo has positioned herself as a voice of experience within the reality television world. Her warnings to prospective Housewives cast members and her reflections on the industry's impact on personal lives have contributed to a broader public conversation about the costs and consequences of reality television fame. By citing the legal troubles faced by her former co-star Teresa Giudice as a cautionary example, Manzo has used her platform to highlight the real-world risks that can accompany reality television participation.[18]
The Manzo family's ongoing public dynamics — including the well-documented estrangement between Caroline and her sister Dina Manzo, and the legal proceedings involving Tommy Manzo — have continued to generate media interest, ensuring that Caroline Manzo remains a figure of public discussion within the reality television ecosystem years after her last regular television appearance.[2]
