Sovann Linden is a French-American entrepreneur and the co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) of Excellence Learning, an artificial intelligence-powered tutoring platform focused on mathematics and science education. The company was part of the Y Combinator Winter 2025 batch.[1]
Career
Linden studied mathematics at the University of Oxford, where he earned a Master of Mathematics degree, and subsequently completed a Master of Engineering at Stanford University.[2]
Linden co-founded Excellence Learning alongside Alexis Bonnafont. The company develops an AI-driven tutoring platform that serves as a replacement or supplement for private tutoring and structured after-school programmes such as Kumon. The platform offers personalised courses and exercises in mathematics and science, adapting content to each student's knowledge level and learning style. Features include detailed text, voice, and graphical explanations, study plan creation tools, revision and memorisation aids, and optional human mentorship.[3]
Excellence Learning operates both a direct-to-consumer model, primarily targeting parents in the United States, and a business-to-business model selling its AI tutoring tools and exercise databases to schools. The company has established partnerships with several institutions in France, including École Polytechnique and Collège Stanislas.[4]
The platform is designed to serve both high-achieving and struggling students. The company describes its approach as leveraging large language models to replicate the personalised experience of one-on-one tutoring at scale. In addition to its core AI tutoring product, Excellence Learning offers a structured daily programme with courses, exercises, and detailed feedback on student worksheets, which the company positions as an enhanced alternative to traditional supplemental education programmes.
