Sherine Elsawa is an immunologist and Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire.[1] Her research addresses the tumor microenvironment, innate inflammatory signaling, and the role of GLI transcription factors in cancer and immune function.[2]
Education
Elsawa received a B.Sc. in agronomy from Alexandria University in 1992.[3] She earned an MS in biological sciences from Florida International University in 1998,[4] and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2003.[5]
Career
Elsawa joined Northern Illinois University in 2011 as an Assistant Professor of Immunology in the Department of Biology, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Immunology in 2017.[6] In 2017, she moved to the University of New Hampshire as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019, a position she continues to hold.[7]
Research
Elsawa's work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health through seven funded projects totaling $1,398,058.[8] Her funded research at the University of New Hampshire has examined the role of GLI2 in antibody production and the mechanisms by which TLR-TRIF signaling induces GLI3 to modulate innate inflammatory responses.[9]
According to Semantic Scholar, Elsawa has published 92 papers that have been cited a total of 3,078 times, giving her an h-index of 22.[10] Her research has covered topics including macrophage polarization, monocyte and dendritic cell biology in lymphoproliferative disorders, the role of sulfatase 2 in hepatocellular carcinoma, B-lymphocyte stimulator signaling in Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, and MYC and IRF4 regulation in lymphoma.[11]
