Scheana Marie Shay (née Jancan; born May 7, 1985) is an American television personality, singer, podcast host, and actress who rose to prominence as an original cast member on the Bravo reality television series Vanderpump Rules. Appearing on the show for all eleven of its seasons, Shay became one of the most recognizable figures in the Bravo reality television universe. Before her career in reality television, she pursued acting and music in Los Angeles, working as a waitress at the restaurant SUR, which served as the setting for Vanderpump Rules. Her personal life — including her first marriage to Michael Shay, a subsequent miscarriage, and her relationship with Australian rugby player Brock Davies — played out publicly on the series. Beyond television, Shay hosts the podcast Scheananigans with Scheana Shay, has released music as a recording artist, and has performed in the Las Vegas stage show Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man. She also gained earlier tabloid attention for a brief relationship with actor Eddie Cibrian before his affair with singer LeAnn Rimes became public. Shay has spoken openly about her Mexican-American heritage and has embraced her Latina identity in public appearances and interviews.[1]
Early Life
Scheana Marie Jancan was born on May 7, 1985, in West Covina, California, a city in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles.[2] She is of Mexican-American descent and has spoken publicly about growing up with ties to her Latin heritage. In a 2025 interview with BuzzFeed during Latine Heritage Month, Shay discussed embracing her cultural background and leaning into her identity as a Latina in the entertainment industry.[3]
Growing up in the greater Los Angeles area, Shay developed early interests in performing, including acting, singing, and dancing. She pursued entertainment from a young age and eventually relocated to the Los Angeles area to build a career in Hollywood. Before gaining fame on reality television, she worked various jobs in the service and entertainment industries while auditioning for roles.
Shay first entered the public eye — albeit briefly — in 2004, when she was among several Hooters waitresses involved in a labor dispute that received national media coverage.[4] This early brush with media attention preceded her later career in entertainment by several years.
Career
Early Entertainment Work
Before becoming a reality television star, Shay pursued careers in acting and music in Los Angeles. According to her IMDb profile, she began working in entertainment around 2006, taking on small roles in television and film.[2] One of her early notable appearances was as the "Pizza Girl" in the 2009 Jonas Brothers music video for "Burnin' Up." In later interviews, Shay reflected on the experience of working with the Jonas Brothers during that era, recalling that Nick Jonas appeared nervous during the shoot.[5]
During this period, Shay also became a waitress at SUR (Sexy Unique Restaurant), a West Hollywood restaurant owned by Lisa Vanderpump, a cast member on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Her employment at SUR would prove pivotal to her career, as the restaurant became the basis for the Bravo spinoff series Vanderpump Rules.
Prior to the launch of Vanderpump Rules, Shay gained tabloid attention for a brief romantic relationship with actor Eddie Cibrian. Shay later stated that she ended the relationship with Cibrian after he was caught having an affair with country singer LeAnn Rimes, a scandal that received extensive media coverage in 2009.[6][7] The Cibrian connection was later referenced on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills through Brandi Glanville, Cibrian's ex-wife, further raising Shay's profile in the Bravo television ecosystem.
Vanderpump Rules (2013–2024)
Shay was an original cast member on Vanderpump Rules, which premiered on Bravo in January 2013 as a spinoff of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The series followed the lives and interpersonal drama of employees at Lisa Vanderpump's restaurant SUR in West Hollywood. Shay appeared in all eleven seasons of the show, making her one of the longest-tenured cast members.[8]
Throughout the run of Vanderpump Rules, Shay's storylines centered on her romantic relationships, friendships, career ambitions, and personal struggles. The series chronicled her relationship and marriage to Michael Shay, their subsequent divorce, her journey through fertility challenges including egg freezing and a miscarriage, and her relationship with Brock Davies. Her friendships and conflicts with fellow cast members — including Lala Kent, Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, Katie Maloney, and Stassi Schroeder — were recurring elements of the show's narrative.
The show became one of Bravo's most popular unscripted series and was profiled by Vogue in a feature exploring the cultural impact of the cast and the SUR restaurant setting.[8]
Following the conclusion of Vanderpump Rules, Shay made guest appearances on the second season of the spinoff series The Valley. However, in a February 2026 interview, Shay stated that she was "really glad" she was not a full-time cast member on The Valley, expressing no regrets about turning down a permanent spot on the show.[9]
Music Career
In addition to her television work, Shay has pursued a career as a recording artist. She has released several singles and music videos over the course of her career in entertainment. Her musical endeavors were frequently documented on Vanderpump Rules, where her ambitions as a singer and performer were a recurring storyline.[2]
Las Vegas and Stage Work
Shay expanded her performance career beyond television and music by taking on a role in the Las Vegas stage production Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man. Her casting in the show was facilitated, in part, by connections made through the nightlife and entertainment scene in Las Vegas.[10]
Podcasting
Shay hosts the podcast Scheananigans with Scheana Shay, which is produced as part of the Dear Media podcast network. The podcast covers a range of topics, including pop culture, relationships, and behind-the-scenes stories from her career in reality television.[11][12] The podcast has served as a platform for Shay to address her personal life, friendships, and public controversies outside the constraints of edited reality television.
In a January 2026 episode, Shay discussed her approach to friendships, stating that she was choosing "quality over quantity" and focusing on protecting her energy in her personal relationships.[13] Also on the podcast, Shay revisited details of her first marriage to Michael Shay, offering new reflections on the relationship and divorce.[14]
In March 2026, the Dear Media website featured a lighthearted piece about Shay's reflections on her tattoos, with the headline framing her "tattoo regrets" as an accidental guide for others considering body art.[15]
Personal Life
First Marriage to Michael Shay
Shay began dating Michael Shay before the premiere of Vanderpump Rules, and their relationship was a central storyline on the series. The couple married in 2014 in a wedding that was featured on the show.[16] Their marriage was documented extensively on the series, including struggles with substance abuse issues faced by Michael Shay.
The couple separated and subsequently divorced. Lisa Vanderpump publicly commented on the split.[17] The divorce was finalized in 2017, with details of the settlement reported in the media.[18][19]
In January 2026, Shay revisited her first marriage on her podcast, shedding new light on the relationship and the circumstances surrounding their split.[20]
Following her divorce, Shay went through a period of celibacy and sobriety, which she discussed in media interviews.[21]
Fertility Journey
Shay was open about her fertility journey, which played out both on Vanderpump Rules and in the media. She underwent the process of freezing her eggs, documenting the experience on social media.[22]
Shay subsequently suffered a miscarriage, which she discussed publicly. She later announced that she was pregnant and expecting her first child.[23] A sex reveal event confirmed she was expecting a daughter.[24]
Marriage to Brock Davies
Shay began a relationship with Brock Davies, an Australian rugby player and personal trainer. Their relationship was documented on later seasons of Vanderpump Rules. The couple married in 2022.[25]
As of early 2026, Shay and Davies remained married. Bravo reported updates on their relationship in January and February 2026, noting that the couple celebrated New Year's Eve together in Las Vegas.[26][27]
Friendships and Public Feuds
Shay's friendships and interpersonal conflicts have been a recurring subject in the media, due in large part to their documentation on Vanderpump Rules. In October 2025, Shay publicly addressed a falling out with fellow Vanderpump Rules cast member Lala Kent, responding to Kent's claims about the nature of their dispute. According to Shay, the rift involved Kent's delay in promoting Shay's memoir.[28]
By February 2026, Shay stated publicly that she believed her friendship with Kent would "never be repaired."[9]
Legacy
Scheana Shay's eleven-season tenure on Vanderpump Rules places her among the longest-serving cast members in the Bravo reality television franchise. The show, which premiered in 2013, became a cultural touchstone in the reality television genre and was profiled in outlets including Vogue, which explored the show's influence on popular culture and the blurring of boundaries between service industry workers and celebrity.[8]
Shay's willingness to document her personal life on camera — including her marriages, divorce, miscarriage, fertility journey, and interpersonal conflicts — contributed to the show's narrative depth and audience engagement. Her openness about her miscarriage, in particular, was noted in media coverage as part of a broader cultural shift toward public discussions of pregnancy loss among public figures.
Her podcast, Scheananigans, extended her media presence beyond the confines of the Bravo network, allowing her to engage directly with audiences and address personal and professional matters on her own terms. The show's placement within the Dear Media network positioned it alongside other personality-driven podcasts in the lifestyle and entertainment space.[29]
Shay's public embrace of her Mexican-American heritage, particularly in a 2025 BuzzFeed feature during Latine Heritage Month, contributed to broader conversations about Latina representation in reality television, a genre that has historically underrepresented Latino voices.[30]
