Robert Chandler is a British-American technology entrepreneur and the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Wordware, an artificial intelligence company based in San Francisco. Wordware, which participated in Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch, develops AI agent and workspace products designed to help professionals automate and augment knowledge work.[1]

Career

Chandler co-founded Wordware alongside Filip Kozera in 2023. The company began with the premise that natural language could serve as a programming interface for AI systems — a concept the founders summarized as "words are the next programming language."[2] Chandler serves as the company's CTO, overseeing its technical direction.

Wordware was accepted into Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch and subsequently raised a $30 million seed round, which the company has described as the largest seed round in Y Combinator history. The round was led by investors including Spark Capital and Felicis Ventures.[1] The company operates in the areas of AIOps, artificial intelligence, developer tools, and infrastructure.

Wordware's initial product focused on enabling users, including non-engineers, to create AI workflows using natural language. The company later developed Sauna, an AI workspace for professionals described as an intelligent assistant built for "compounding context." Sauna connects, with explicit user permission, to tools such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, and other productivity applications to gather relevant information and help users complete tasks. The product is designed to learn user preferences, detect patterns, and work proactively to reduce routine work.[2]

Wordware's first product launch became the number-one launch of all time on Product Hunt.[2] The company is headquartered in San Francisco and maintains an active hiring presence for engineering, design, and marketing roles.

According to Crunchbase, Chandler has founded two organizations over the course of his career, though details of his earlier venture are not widely documented. He is based in San Francisco.
