Randall Ives Emmett (born March 25, 1971) is an American film producer and television personality who has served as chairman and co-founder of the production company Emmett/Furla Oasis Films. Over a career spanning three decades, Emmett has produced or executive-produced dozens of films, many of them low-budget action movies featuring well-known older actors in limited roles — a production model that became known in the film industry as the "geezer teaser." His business partnership with George Furla resulted in one of the more prolific independent production companies in Hollywood, responsible for a large volume of direct-to-video and limited-release action films. Emmett gained additional public recognition through his appearances on the Bravo reality television series Vanderpump Rules during its eighth and ninth seasons, where he appeared as the partner of cast member Lala Kent. His personal life, including his relationships with Kent and ex-wife Ambyr Childers, has been a frequent subject of tabloid coverage and entertainment news. More recently, Emmett has expanded into directing, with the action-thriller Conspiracy of Thieves announced in early 2026.[1]
Early Life
Randall Ives Emmett was born on March 25, 1971, in Miami, Florida.[2] Details regarding his parents and upbringing remain limited in public sources. He grew up in Florida before eventually relocating to New York City to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Emmett has spoken publicly about his early ambitions in film and his determination to establish himself in the movie business. In an interview with the New York Film Academy, he recounted his journey from his early years to becoming a prolific producer, describing the path as one shaped by persistence and a willingness to take on projects that larger studios often overlooked.[3]
Education
Emmett attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he studied filmmaking and visual media.[2] The School of Visual Arts, known for its programs in fine arts, design, and media, provided Emmett with a foundation in the technical and creative aspects of film production. His time in New York also exposed him to the independent film scene of the 1990s, which would later inform his approach to producing low-budget genre films.
Career
Early Career and Emmett/Furla Films
Emmett began his career in the entertainment industry in the mid-1990s.[2] He formed a professional partnership with George Furla, and together they co-founded what would eventually become Emmett/Furla Oasis Films (originally known as Emmett/Furla Films). The company's business model centered on producing a high volume of films at relatively low budgets, often securing the involvement of recognizable actors to attract international distribution deals. This approach allowed the company to produce and release a large number of titles, many of which went directly to video or received limited theatrical releases.
Emmett's early career was characterized by his ability to secure financing and distribution for independent projects, leveraging relationships with talent agencies and international sales companies. According to his own account shared with the New York Film Academy, the path from aspiring filmmaker to established producer involved years of building contacts and learning the business side of the industry.[3]
Emmett became particularly associated with a filmmaking approach that industry observers and journalists came to call the "geezer teaser." This model involved securing the commitment of a well-known, typically older action star — such as Bruce Willis, John Travolta, or Nicolas Cage — to appear in a low-budget action film. The star's name and likeness would be used prominently in marketing materials to attract international buyers and pre-sales financing. However, the actual screen time of the marquee star was often minimal, sometimes amounting to only a few days of shooting, with the rest of the film carried by lesser-known cast members.
This production strategy proved financially effective for Emmett/Furla Oasis Films. By minimizing the time commitment required from expensive stars — and thus their fees — while still leveraging their name recognition for overseas distribution deals, the company could produce films at low cost with a relatively reliable return on investment. The model resulted in a high output of titles, with Emmett credited as a producer on dozens of films over the course of his career.[2]
The "geezer teaser" approach attracted criticism from film critics and industry commentators who argued that the resulting films were often of poor quality and that the marketing was misleading to consumers who expected the advertised star to have a substantial role. Nevertheless, the model represented a significant niche in the direct-to-video and streaming marketplace, and Emmett/Furla Oasis Films continued to release multiple titles per year throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s.
Notable Productions
Through Emmett/Furla Oasis Films, Emmett served as a producer or executive producer on a wide range of projects. The company's filmography spans action thrillers, crime dramas, and other genre films. While many of the company's titles were direct-to-video releases, some received theatrical distribution. The sheer volume of Emmett's producing credits — documented in industry databases such as IMDb — placed him among the most prolific producers in the independent film sector during this period.[2]
Move into Directing
In a more recent development in his career, Emmett has moved into directing. In February 2026, international sales company Voltage Pictures announced the launch of Conspiracy of Thieves, an action-thriller directed by Emmett. The film's cast includes Emile Hirsch, Busta Rhymes, Dash Mihok, and Rich the Kid. Voltage began sales on the project at the European Film Market (EFM), a major international film market held annually in Berlin.[4] The announcement signaled Emmett's continued activity in the film industry and an expansion of his role beyond producing.
Television Appearances
Emmett gained broader public recognition through his appearances on the Bravo reality television series Vanderpump Rules. The show, which follows the personal and professional lives of staff and associates connected to restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump, featured Emmett during its eighth and ninth seasons as the romantic partner of cast member Lala Kent.[5] His presence on the show introduced him to a reality television audience and made his personal relationships a subject of public interest and media coverage.
Poker
Outside of film and television production, Emmett has been involved in competitive poker. He has been profiled as a poker player on platforms including the World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour websites,[6][7] and was the subject of a feature on Poker Central titled "The Randall Emmett Experience."[8]
Personal Life
Marriage to Ambyr Childers
Emmett was previously married to actress Ambyr Childers, known for her role on the Showtime series Ray Donovan. The couple had two children together.[9] Their divorce was finalized in December 2017, according to reports from TMZ.[10]
In January 2026, Childers publicly discussed her marriage to Emmett in various media appearances. In an interview covered by Us Weekly, she revealed that she had watched a sex tape involving Emmett and Lala Kent, which she described as a catalyst in her decision to leave the marriage.[11][12]
Relationship with Lala Kent
Emmett began a relationship with Vanderpump Rules cast member Lala Kent in 2015.[13] The relationship was initially kept private on the show, with Kent referring to Emmett only obliquely. Their relationship became public as it was increasingly discussed on Vanderpump Rules and in tabloid media. In September 2018, Emmett and Kent became engaged.[5]
The couple welcomed a daughter, Ocean, with Emmett sharing the first video of the newborn publicly.[14] Including Ocean and his two children from his marriage to Childers, Emmett has three children.
The relationship between Emmett and Kent ended in 2021. In May 2022, Kent recreated a photo that she said had exposed Emmett's infidelity, an event widely covered by entertainment media.[15]
Post-Breakup and Co-Parenting
The end of Emmett's relationship with Kent has continued to generate media coverage. In November 2025, Kent described her co-parenting situation with Emmett as a "nightmare" while speaking at BravoCon, stating that she felt "numb" to the challenges nearly four years after their split.[16][17]
In early 2026, Kent and Childers announced a joint podcast venture, a development that reportedly prompted Emmett to send Kent a "legal letter" regarding the project. Kent told media outlets that the letter gave her "a good chuckle."[18] In February 2026, Kent and Childers publicly invited Emmett's then-current girlfriend to join their podcast in the future, saying there would "always be a spot" for her.[19]
Legacy
Emmett's career represents a notable case study in the economics of independent film production. The "geezer teaser" model he helped pioneer — leveraging the name recognition of established action stars for low-budget, quickly produced genre films — became a distinct category within the direct-to-video and streaming marketplace. While the approach attracted criticism from film critics and industry commentators for the perceived quality of the resulting films and the discrepancy between marketing and actual content, it proved commercially viable and was adopted or imitated by other producers.
As co-founder and chairman of Emmett/Furla Oasis Films, Emmett helped create one of the more prolific independent production companies of the 2010s and 2020s, with a filmography numbering in the dozens. The company's output contributed to the broader ecosystem of content for streaming platforms and international markets, where demand for genre films with recognizable names remained consistent.
Emmett's transition from behind-the-scenes producer to a figure in reality television through Vanderpump Rules also illustrates the increasing permeability between the entertainment industry's production side and its on-screen talent. His personal life became intertwined with his public profile in ways that continued to generate media attention years after his appearances on the show ended.
His more recent move into directing, with the 2026 announcement of Conspiracy of Thieves, suggests a continuing evolution of his role within the industry.[20]
