Philip Fanning is an entomologist who serves as Assistant Professor of Agricultural Entomology in the School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine.[1] His research focuses on the invasive pest Drosophila suzukii, commonly known as spotted wing drosophila, and its management in fruit crops.[2]
Career
Fanning joined the University of Maine System in 2020 as Assistant Professor of Agricultural Entomology within the School of Biology and Ecology.[3]
Research
Fanning's work has examined cultural, biological, and chemical approaches to controlling Drosophila suzukii in berry and small fruit crops. His studies have covered topics including rapid harvest schedules and fruit removal as non-chemical management tactics, overwintering survival of the pest, evaluation of organic and biopesticide insecticides, mulching and pruning as cultural controls, insecticide timing and sequencing, and population genomics of Drosophila suzukii in the United States.[4]
According to Semantic Scholar, Fanning has authored 36 papers that have collectively been cited 559 times, giving him an h-index of 15.[5]
