Oliver Lambson is a South African-born entrepreneur and software engineer who is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Karoo, a financial technology company that provides consumer lending services.[1] He is also the co-founder of Rubato Guitars, a boutique carbon fibre electric guitar company based in South Africa.[2]
Early life and education
Lambson holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronic Engineering from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and a Master of Philosophy in Manufacturing and Management from the University of Cambridge.[3]
Career
Rubato Guitars
Lambson co-founded Rubato Guitars alongside his father, Roger Lambson, both engineers and guitar enthusiasts. The company, based in South Africa, specialises in carbon fibre electric guitars. In 2019, Rubato unveiled its flagship model, the Lassie, a built-to-order carbon fibre doublecut electric guitar weighing approximately 2.5 kilograms. The guitar received coverage from publications including Guitar World, MusicRadar, and Premier Guitar.[4][5]
Karoo
Lambson co-founded Karoo, a fintech company offering consumer loans. The company operates in Canada, where it provides personal loans ranging from CAD $500 to $15,000 through a fully online platform, with loan approvals processed in seconds and funds disbursed within hours.[6] The company emphasises transparent pricing with no hidden fees and no early repayment penalties. As of 2026, Karoo holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot. The company also operates a United States-focused service at a separate domain, indicating expansion into the American market.[7]
Lambson serves as CTO of Karoo and is based in San Francisco, California.[8]
