Nancy Kinner is a researcher affiliated with the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire, whose work focuses on oil spill science, including dispersant behavior, oil weathering, and marine debris, as well as the subsurface fate of contaminants and protozoa in groundwater systems.[1]

Research

Kinner's published work spans oil spill response science and environmental microbiology. Her more recent research addresses the behavior of spilled oil in Arctic and subarctic marine environments, including studies on marine snow's role in the fate of spilled oil in Cook Inlet, Alaska, dispersant use in Arctic waters, and sediment trap studies characterizing particle sedimentation in subarctic estuaries.[2] She has also contributed to research on marine debris identification and oil spill response modeling needs in Arctic maritime settings.[3]

Kinner has received five grants from the National Science Foundation totaling $1,068,995. These include funding for research on the role of protistan predation in trichloroethylene (TCE) biodegradation ($312,819, awarded July 1, 2010) and two related awards investigating the distribution and role of protozoa in organically contaminated subsurface environments at the University of New Hampshire ($441,365 awarded September 28, 1993, and $302,512 awarded July 25, 1990).
