Maximilian Hofer (born 23 May 1999 in Vienna, Austria) is an Austrian racing driver and technology entrepreneur. In motorsport, Hofer has competed at a high level in European GT racing, serving as an Audi Sport factory driver and winning the 2024 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup Gold Cup championship while racing for Tresor Attempto Racing.[1] He is also a race winner in the ADAC GT Masters series and claimed the 2019 Pirelli Junior title in that championship.[2] Outside of racing, Hofer is the founder and chief executive officer of Parsewise, a London-based document intelligence platform that was accepted into the Y Combinator startup accelerator programme.[3][4] A native of the Perchtoldsdorf area near Vienna who began karting as a teenager, Hofer has built parallel careers in professional motorsport and artificial intelligence technology, an unusual combination that has drawn attention in both the European startup ecosystem and the GT racing paddock.

Early Life

Maximilian Hofer was born on 23 May 1999 in Vienna, Austria.[1] He grew up in the Perchtoldsdorf area in the district of Mödling, Lower Austria, just south of Vienna.[5] From a young age, Hofer developed an interest in motorsport, and he has cited the legendary Austrian Formula One driver Jochen Rindt as an inspiration.[2]

Hofer began his racing career in karting. Records from the Central Eastern European (CEE) karting scene indicate that by 2015, he was competing in the DD2 category at international karting events.[6] His early karting results were strong enough to attract the attention of talent scouts in the Audi motorsport programme, which would prove decisive for the trajectory of his career.[7]

Hofer's early motorsport activities in and around Lower Austria were documented by regional media, which followed the young driver from Perchtoldsdorf as he progressed through the junior ranks of European motorsport.[5]

Career

Karting and Single-Seater Beginnings (2015–2016)

Hofer's transition from karting to circuit racing came through the Audi Sport TT Cup, a one-make racing series organized by Audi Sport that served as a development platform for young drivers. In 2016, ahead of the cup's second season, Hofer was selected to compete in the series, joining a field of young international talents.[8] This marked his entry into the Audi motorsport ecosystem, which would define much of his racing career over the following years.

During the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup season, Hofer achieved notable results, including a podium finish at the Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands. His performance at Zandvoort was reported as a significant achievement for the young Austrian in his debut season in car racing.[9]

TCR Germany (2017)

Following his season in the Audi Sport TT Cup, Hofer graduated to the TCR Germany touring car series for the 2017 season. The move represented a step up in competition level, placing him against more experienced drivers in a multi-manufacturer championship.[10]

The 2017 TCR Germany season featured a competitive field, with the championship ultimately won by Josh Files, who clinched the title at the Hockenheimring season finale.[11] Hofer gained valuable experience in the series during his single season of TCR competition before transitioning to GT racing.

ADAC GT Masters (2018–2020)

In 2018, Hofer made the move to the ADAC GT Masters, Germany's premier GT racing championship, racing an Audi R8 LMS GT3 car. His entry into the series was covered by regional Austrian media as a notable step for the Perchtoldsdorf driver.[5]

The 2018 season saw Hofer establishing himself in the highly competitive GT Masters field. He recorded strong results over the course of the year, and his performances across the season were characterized as part of a varied and eventful motorsport year for the young Austrian.[12]

The 2019 ADAC GT Masters season proved to be a breakthrough for Hofer. Racing with the Audi R8 LMS, he won the Pirelli Junior classification, a championship within the series recognizing the top-performing young drivers. In being awarded the Pirelli Junior title, Hofer became the first Austrian to claim the award, an achievement noted alongside his admiration for his compatriot Jochen Rindt.[2] The 2019 season also saw Hofer secure race victories in the ADAC GT Masters, cementing his reputation as one of the leading young GT drivers in Europe.[13]

The opening round of the 2019 ADAC GT Masters season featured an Audi victory at the season opener, with the Audi R8 LMS proving competitive from the outset of the campaign.[14]

For the 2020 season, Hofer joined Land Motorsport, one of the established Audi customer teams in the ADAC GT Masters. The team announced its driver lineup for 2020, with Hofer among the new additions, alongside other new signings as Land Motorsport restructured its roster with three new drivers.[15][16] He also recorded a strong second-place result in the dunes, likely referring to a race at Zandvoort, during this period.[17]

Coverage of Hofer's season finale in one of these ADAC GT Masters campaigns was reported by regional media.[18]

GT World Challenge Europe and Audi Factory Status

In 2020, Hofer expanded his racing programme beyond the ADAC GT Masters to include the GT World Challenge Europe, the continent's premier GT3 endurance and sprint racing championship. He was announced as part of a driver lineup for R-Motorsport's entry in the World Challenge Europe series, alongside Ricardo de Sadeleer and Simon Collard.[19]

Over subsequent seasons, Hofer became established as a factory-affiliated driver within the Audi Sport programme, competing in GT World Challenge Europe events with Audi customer teams. He held an FIA Silver driver categorization, placing him in the intermediate classification between professional (Platinum/Gold) and amateur (Bronze) drivers.[1]

The pinnacle of Hofer's racing career came in the 2024 GT World Challenge Europe season, when he won the Sprint Cup Gold Cup championship while competing for Tresor Attempto Racing, an Audi-affiliated team. The Gold Cup is a classification within the GTWCE Sprint Cup for cars crewed by Silver and Bronze-rated drivers.[1] His 2024 campaign included competing at the Nürburgring, where he raced alongside teammates Mukovoz and Pereira in the number 66 car.[20]

As of 2024–2025, Hofer continued to compete in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with Tresor Attempto Racing, maintaining his presence in the upper echelons of European GT racing.[1]

Parsewise: Technology Entrepreneurship

In parallel with his racing career, Hofer founded Parsewise, a document intelligence platform based in London. The company develops artificial intelligence tools for processing and analyzing documents, positioning itself within the broader enterprise AI and document automation market.[4]

Parsewise was accepted into the Y Combinator startup accelerator, one of the most prominent early-stage technology incubators in the world, based in Silicon Valley. Y Combinator has backed companies such as Airbnb, Stripe, and Dropbox, and acceptance into its programme is considered a significant milestone for early-stage startups.[4]

Hofer serves as the chief executive officer of Parsewise.[3] In November 2025, he was featured at an economic forum in Vorarlberg, Austria, where the application of artificial intelligence in business was discussed as a critical issue. Coverage of the event described Hofer, originally from Vorarlberg, as leading Parsewise from its London base.[3]

The dual pursuit of professional motorsport and technology entrepreneurship has been a distinctive feature of Hofer's career. While many racing drivers pursue business interests outside of the cockpit, the founding and active leadership of a Y Combinator-backed AI company represents an uncommon degree of engagement with the technology sector for a professional racing driver.[4][3]

Personal Life

Maximilian Hofer was born and raised in the Vienna area, growing up in Perchtoldsdorf in the Mödling district of Lower Austria.[5] He has connections to the Vorarlberg region of western Austria, as noted in Austrian media coverage of his entrepreneurial activities.[3]

Hofer has cited the Austrian Formula One world champion Jochen Rindt as a personal hero and inspiration in motorsport. Rindt, who won the 1970 Formula One World Championship posthumously after being killed in a crash at Monza, remains one of Austria's most celebrated sporting figures, and Hofer's admiration for Rindt was highlighted in ADAC coverage of his 2019 Pirelli Junior title.[2]

As of 2025, Hofer divides his time between his racing commitments across European circuits and his work leading Parsewise from its base in London.[3]

Recognition

Hofer's most notable competitive achievements include:

  • 2019 ADAC GT Masters Pirelli Junior Champion — Hofer won the junior classification in Germany's premier GT racing series, becoming the first Austrian to claim the title.[2][13]
  • 2024 GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup Gold Cup Champion — Racing for Tresor Attempto Racing, Hofer won the Gold Cup classification in the GTWCE Sprint Cup, the leading GT3 sprint racing championship in Europe.[1]
  • Y Combinator Acceptance (Parsewise) — Hofer's technology startup Parsewise was accepted into the Y Combinator accelerator programme, a distinction achieved by a small percentage of applicant companies each cycle.[4]
  • Audi Sport Factory Driver — Hofer was affiliated with the Audi Sport factory driver programme, receiving manufacturer support for his GT racing activities across multiple seasons.[1]

His dual career in motorsport and technology has drawn coverage in both Austrian regional media and international startup-focused publications.[3][4]

Legacy

As of 2025, Hofer remains active in both professional motorsport and technology entrepreneurship, making a definitive assessment of his long-term legacy premature. However, several aspects of his career are noteworthy in their respective fields.

In motorsport, Hofer's trajectory from the Audi Sport TT Cup through TCR Germany to the ADAC GT Masters and GT World Challenge Europe represents a successful progression through the European GT racing ladder system. His 2019 Pirelli Junior title in the ADAC GT Masters and 2024 Gold Cup championship in the GTWCE Sprint Cup mark him as one of the more accomplished Austrian GT racing drivers of his generation. His career has been conducted primarily within the Audi motorsport ecosystem, progressing from the brand's junior one-make series to factory-supported GT3 competition.[1][2]

In the technology sector, Parsewise's acceptance into Y Combinator places Hofer among a relatively small cohort of Austrian founders to have been backed by the accelerator. His leadership of a London-based AI startup while simultaneously competing at the highest levels of European GT racing is an atypical career combination that bridges two demanding professional fields.[3][4]

Hofer's appearance at the 2025 Vorarlberg economic forum, where AI adoption was discussed as an existential business question, reflected growing recognition of his expertise in the application of artificial intelligence to enterprise document processing.[3]
