Max Bohun is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of GradeWiz, an artificial intelligence-powered grading assistant for educators. He co-founded the company with Aman Garg while both were undergraduates at Cornell University. GradeWiz was accepted into Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch.[1]

Career

Bohun and Garg developed GradeWiz over a period of more than two years while attending Cornell University, where both were members of the Class of 2025. The company participated in Cornell's eLab student startup accelerator and was among the teams that presented at the 2024 eLab Student Startup Showcase held at San Francisco's Autodesk Gallery.[2]

GradeWiz uses AI and computer vision to grade homework and exams in STEM courses, with the stated goal of reducing the time educators spend on grading and providing students with more detailed and timely feedback. According to the company's website, the platform claims grading that is three times faster than manual methods and has processed over 30,000 submissions. The tool has been piloted by educators at several institutions, including Cornell University, California Polytechnic State University (Humboldt), Hunter College, Pennsylvania State University, Syracuse University, Ithaca College, Occidental College, and Drew University.[3]

While at Cornell, Bohun worked as an undergraduate researcher in natural language processing and large language models, contributing to sociology research using early language models.[4]

GradeWiz has received backing from Y Combinator as well as venture capital firms including Z Venture Capital and Standard Partners. The company was included in TechCrunch's list of "10 startups to watch from YC's W25 Demo Day."[5]

Bohun has written about the intersection of AI and education, including a May 2025 article for the Forbes Business Council titled "How AI Can Make Education More Human," in which he argued that automating administrative tasks allows educators to focus on mentoring and teaching.
