Mathew Matakovic is an American technology entrepreneur and software engineer. He is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Digipals, a startup developing what it describes as an AI-native social operating system.[1] The company was founded in 2025 and is based in San Francisco, California.

Early life

Matakovic showed an early interest in technology and game development. In 2017, while still a student at Lake Central High School in Indiana, he received attention for his work as a young game creator, reportedly receiving a notable offer related to his projects.[2] In 2018, he was listed among recipients of the Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship, which supports students from northwest Indiana attending universities.[3]

Career

Matakovic co-founded Digipals in 2025 alongside Peggy Wang, who serves as the company's CEO.[4] The company participated in Y Combinator's Fall 2025 (F25) batch.[5]

Digipals positions itself as "the first AI-native social operating system," with its tagline "Where AI makes us more social."[6] The platform uses artificial intelligence to facilitate real-world social interactions among users, such as coordinating activities like getting coffee, playing sports, studying, and other group outings. Job listings for the company describe the product as involving "AI digital creatures" designed to encourage social engagement.[7]

As CTO, Matakovic oversees the company's technical development.[8] The company's technology stack includes React Native, Python, Flask, and native iOS and Android development. As of 2025, Digipals had three employees and was actively hiring engineering talent in San Francisco.
