Born in Pasadena, Texas, she first gained national attention after winning the Miss Arizona USA 1989 title and placing in the top ten at the Miss USA 1989 pageant.[1] Her acting career began in the mid-1980s with roles in films such as Vasectomy: A Delicate Matter (1986) and My Best Friend Is a Vampire (1987), and she went on to appear in productions including Miss Congeniality (2000) and the television series Walker, Texas Ranger (2001).[2][3] Locken became a prominent figure in reality television, first appearing on She's Got the Look in 2009, then joining the cast of Big Rich Texas in 2012, before becoming a main cast member on Bravo's The Real Housewives of Dallas from its 2016 premiere through its fourth season in 2020.[4][5] Throughout her career, she has been involved in philanthropic activities supporting multiple charitable organizations in the Dallas area and beyond.[4]
Early Life
LeeAnne Locken was born in Pasadena, Texas, a city in the Houston metropolitan area.[4] Details about her childhood and family life became part of public discourse during her time on The Real Housewives of Dallas, where she spoke openly about her upbringing. In interviews and on the show, Locken discussed having experienced a difficult childhood, including surviving abuse during her early years.[6] These experiences, which she described publicly on multiple occasions, shaped her trajectory and later informed her involvement in charitable causes related to supporting vulnerable populations.
Locken's early life in Texas provided the foundation for much of her later career, as she remained closely tied to the state throughout her professional life. Her experiences growing up in the greater Houston area eventually led her to pursue opportunities in modeling and beauty pageants, which served as a launching pad for her entertainment career.[7]
Education
Locken attended the University of Houston in Houston, Texas.[4] The university, one of the largest in the state, served as an academic base during the period in which she was also beginning to pursue modeling and pageant work. Her time at the university coincided with the early stages of her career in entertainment, as she began appearing in film roles in the mid-1980s while still in her formative years.[3]
Career
Beauty Pageants
Locken's entry into the world of beauty pageants marked a significant chapter in her early career. She first competed in the Miss Texas USA 1988 pageant, where she was the first runner-up, finishing in second place.[1] The following year, she shifted her competitive focus and entered the Miss Arizona USA pageant, which she won, earning the title of Miss Arizona USA 1989.[1] This victory qualified her to compete in the Miss USA 1989 national pageant, where she placed in the top ten.[1]
Her pageant success brought her increased visibility and opened doors to further opportunities in modeling and acting. The experience of competing at the national level provided Locken with a platform that she would leverage throughout the subsequent decades of her career in entertainment.[8]
Acting Career
Locken began her acting career in the mid-1980s, before her pageant success. Her first notable film appearance was in Vasectomy: A Delicate Matter (1986), followed by a role in My Best Friend Is a Vampire (1987).[9][3] These early roles established her presence in Hollywood, though she continued to pursue a range of entertainment opportunities rather than focusing exclusively on acting.
Throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, Locken maintained a steady presence in film and television. She appeared in Sons of Thunder (1999), a television series that was a spin-off of the long-running action series Walker, Texas Ranger.[9] In 2000, she had a role in the comedy film Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock, a connection that was frequently noted during her later reality television career.[2] She also appeared in an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger itself in 2001.[9]
Locken continued to take on acting roles into the 2010s. In 2015, she appeared in the film Beyond the Farthest Star.[9] Her filmography, while spanning several decades, was characterized by a variety of supporting and smaller roles across multiple genres, from comedy to action to drama.[3]
Reality Television
She's Got the Look
Locken made her reality television debut in 2009 on TV Land's She's Got the Look, a modeling competition for women over the age of 35. She competed in the show's second season and finished in third place.[4] The experience on the show demonstrated her comfort in front of reality television cameras and her ability to engage audiences, setting the stage for her subsequent reality television appearances.
Big Rich Texas
In 2012, Locken joined the cast of Big Rich Texas, which aired on the Esquire Network (formerly Style Network). On the show, she was introduced as a board member and representative for The Fashionistas, a charitable organization.[4] Her role on the series highlighted her involvement in the Dallas social and philanthropic scene. Locken appeared on the show for two seasons before departing in 2013.[4]
The Real Housewives of Dallas
Locken's most prominent television role came when she was cast as a main cast member in Bravo's The Real Housewives of Dallas, which premiered in April 2016.[10] The show followed a group of women in the Dallas social scene and became part of the broader Real Housewives franchise on Bravo. Locken was one of the original cast members from the series premiere.[11]
On the show, Locken quickly became one of the most prominent and discussed cast members. Her outspoken personality, involvement in Dallas charity circles, and interpersonal conflicts with other cast members were central storylines throughout multiple seasons.[12] During the show's run, she appeared alongside cast members including D'Andra Simmons, Kameron Westcott, Brandi Redmond, Stephanie Hollman, Cary Deuber, and Kary Brittingham.[4]
During Season 4, which aired in late 2019 and early 2020, Locken became the subject of significant controversy after making comments about fellow cast member Kary Brittingham that were characterized as racially insensitive. The controversy was addressed during the Season 4 reunion, which was hosted by Andy Cohen. During the reunion, the other cast members discussed why they had not initially believed the controversial comments would make it to air.[13]
Following the conclusion of Season 4, it was announced that Locken would not be returning to the show. People magazine reported that she was leaving The Real Housewives of Dallas after four seasons.[5] The series itself was subsequently reported to not be returning amid cancellation rumors, as reported by Us Magazine.[14]
Locken also made an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen during her time on the series, further extending her reach within the Bravo network's programming.[15]
Post-RHOD Television Projects
Following her departure from The Real Housewives of Dallas, Locken continued to pursue television opportunities. In 2025, she spoke about an upcoming project that would reunite her with former RHOD costars Cary Deuber and Kameron Westcott.[16] Additionally, D Magazine reported in July 2025 that Locken was exploring opportunities in late-night television, describing her enthusiasm for the format during a social event at the Southampton Inn.[17]
Writing
In addition to her work in entertainment, Locken has published written works. She authored a book titled What's Your Status?, which was made available through Amazon's Kindle platform.[18] She has been credited with publishing two books over the course of her career.[4]
Philanthropy
Charitable work has been a consistent element of Locken's public profile. Her involvement with The Fashionistas, a charity organization, was a central aspect of her role on Big Rich Texas and continued to be referenced during her time on The Real Housewives of Dallas.[4] Throughout her career, she has been involved with several charitable organizations in the Dallas area, with her philanthropic activities frequently highlighted in her public appearances and media profiles.[19][20]
Her philanthropic endeavors have covered a range of causes, and she has spoken publicly about how her own difficult childhood experiences motivated her involvement in charitable work, particularly in causes related to helping those who have experienced abuse or hardship.[6]
Personal Life
Locken's personal life, particularly her romantic relationship with Rich Emberlin, became a significant storyline during her time on The Real Housewives of Dallas. Locken and Emberlin had been in a long-term relationship before becoming engaged.[21] Their wedding planning, including Locken's stated budget of $250,000, was featured during the show's fourth season.[21][22]
Locken and Emberlin married, with People magazine covering the event.[23] The wedding was a prominent event both on the show and in entertainment media coverage.
Locken has been based in Dallas, Texas, for much of her adult life, and the city's social scene has been integral to her public identity and career, particularly during her years on reality television.[24]
Recognition
Locken's career in beauty pageants brought her early recognition, including the Miss Arizona USA 1989 title and a top-ten finish at Miss USA 1989.[1] Her pageant achievements established her as a notable figure in the pageant world and provided a foundation for her subsequent career in entertainment.
Through her work on The Real Housewives of Dallas, Locken gained significant recognition within the reality television landscape. The show's position within Bravo's established Real Housewives franchise ensured a substantial audience and media attention throughout its run.[4] She was profiled and interviewed by numerous publications during the show's run, including People, D Magazine, Romper, Refinery29, and others.[24][21][22]
Her media appearances extended beyond the Bravo network, including an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.[15] She has also been featured in publications such as OTS Magazine and Gladys Magazine in connection with her work in entertainment and philanthropy.[19][20]
Locken's willingness to speak publicly about her personal history, including her experiences with childhood abuse, garnered attention and recognition beyond the entertainment sphere, as she used her platform to bring awareness to issues affecting abuse survivors.[6]
