Kristian Gaylord is an American entrepreneur and software engineer who is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Enhanced Radar, a Y Combinator-backed applied artificial intelligence company developing AI systems for air traffic control and aviation safety. Founded in 2024, the company is based in San Francisco, California.[1][2]
Early life and education
Gaylord grew up in the Hendersonville, North Carolina area. During a gap year approximately 2015–2016, he participated in relief efforts in Nepal.[3] He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Statistics from Columbia University, where he specialized in machine learning and computer science.[4] He is also a licensed private pilot, a background that informs his work at the intersection of aviation and artificial intelligence.[5]
Career
Prior to founding Enhanced Radar, Gaylord held several technical roles across different industries. At Eulith, he worked on high-frequency trading analytics, developing quantitative systems in a finance technology context.[6] He also worked as an AI engineer at Vanguard, a computer vision engineer at Pilot AI, and a data engineer at Ogarajets. Earlier in his career, he developed embedded systems for satellites as a C++ developer in edge computing AI for the space industry. He previously co-founded two companies, Dynalect Analytics and The Kyrium Group, making Enhanced Radar his third venture as a founder.
Gaylord co-founded Enhanced Radar in 2024 alongside Eric Button, whose aviation background complemented Gaylord's engineering and data science expertise.[7][8] The company describes itself as an applied AI company building intelligent systems for aviation, with a focus on increasing safety and efficiency in air traffic control. Enhanced Radar received backing from Y Combinator as well as Initialized Capital, which led a funding round in the company.[9] According to the company, its systems are deployed at major U.S. airports.[10]
Enhanced Radar operates several products. "Pattern" is the company's aviation operational intelligence platform, designed to provide structured data and analytics derived from air traffic control environments. The company also operates an air traffic control radio application available at atc.com, which combines live air traffic control audio with location data to give users real-time information about aviation events such as temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) and in-flight emergencies. In one documented instance, the ATC app alerted users to a TFR over El Paso within minutes of it being issued, demonstrating the platform's ability to surface safety-critical information rapidly.[11]
The company also develops pilot-controller communications AI training datasets, managing the full pipeline from data collection through in-house labeling and quality assurance. In February 2026, Enhanced Radar announced a product called "Y4."[12]
