Kristian Gaylord is an American entrepreneur and software engineer who is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Enhanced Radar, a Y Combinator-backed applied artificial intelligence company developing AI systems for air traffic control and aviation safety. The company is based in San Francisco, California.[1]

Early life and education

Gaylord grew up in the Hendersonville, North Carolina area. During a gap year around 2015–2016, he participated in relief efforts in Nepal.[2] He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Statistics from Columbia University, where he specialized in machine learning and computer science.[3] He is a licensed private pilot.[4]

Career

Prior to founding Enhanced Radar, Gaylord worked in several technical roles across different industries. He worked as a C++ developer in edge computing AI for the space industry, developing embedded systems for satellites.[5] He also held positions as an AI engineer at Vanguard, a computer vision engineer at Pilot AI, and a data engineer at Ogarajets. He previously co-founded two companies, Dynalect Analytics and The Kyrium Group.

Gaylord co-founded Enhanced Radar, which describes itself as an applied AI company building intelligent systems for aviation. The company develops AI solutions aimed at increasing safety and efficiency in air traffic control. According to the company, its systems are deployed at major U.S. airports.[6] Enhanced Radar received backing from Y Combinator and operates several products, including "Pattern," an aviation operational intelligence platform, and an air traffic control (ATC) radio application available at atc.com. The ATC app combines live air traffic control audio with location data to provide users with real-time information about aviation events such as temporary flight restrictions and emergencies.[7]

The company also develops pilot-controller communications AI training datasets, managing the full pipeline from data collection through in-house labeling and quality assurance. In February 2026, the company announced a product called "Y4."[8]
