Karen Glass is an associate professor of pharmacology at the University of Vermont. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms by which proteins recognize histone modifications, including work on bromodomain-containing proteins and epigenetic regulatory complexes.[1]

Education

Glass received a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1999, mentored by Dr. Steven J. Sandler.[2] She earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology & Molecular Genetics from the University of Vermont in 2005, jointly mentored by Drs. Christopher S. Francklyn and Sylvie Doublie.[3] She subsequently completed the "Rapid Data Collection and Structure Solving at the NSLS" course at Brookhaven National Laboratory in 2003 and the NMRFAM Protein Structure Determination Workshop in 2010.[4]

Career

Glass began her research training as a Summer Undergraduate Research Student at the University of Vermont in 1998, in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.[5] She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Santa Cruz from 2005 to 2006 under Harry F. Noller in the Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, followed by a second postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Denver from 2006 to 2010 under Tatiana G. Kutateladze in the Department of Pharmacology.[6]

She joined the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Vermont Campus, as an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2010, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016, a position she held until 2021.[7] Concurrently, she held adjunct appointments at the University of Vermont, serving as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biochemistry from 2011 to 2019 and Adjunct Associate Professor of Biochemistry beginning in 2019.[8] In 2021, she joined the University of Vermont as an Associate Professor of Pharmacology.[9]
