Julian Götze is a German software engineer and entrepreneur who is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Stagewise, a developer tools company building an open-source frontend coding agent for real codebases. He co-founded the company in 2024 alongside Glenn Töws. Stagewise was part of the Y Combinator Summer 2025 batch.[1]
Career
Prior to founding Stagewise, Götze gained experience building web applications used by thousands of users, including work on products such as Saasmetrix and Strukto.io. He and co-founder Glenn Töws met while working at a B2B SaaS startup in Germany.[2]
In 2024, Götze and Töws founded Stagewise, which develops an open-source frontend coding agent designed to work with existing codebases. The product is built to enable backend developers, designers, and product managers to build and modify web applications through a visually guided interface, regardless of the underlying technology stack. The Stagewise agent operates directly within the user's web browser, making changes to local codebases and supporting a variety of frontend frameworks and project configurations. Users can select elements on a page rendered on localhost, provide natural language prompts describing desired changes, and see the results applied immediately without switching to external tools.[3]
The tool includes features such as full access to browser developer tools (including console and debugger access across all tabs) and the ability to make both temporary test changes and permanent edits to a connected codebase. The company's open-source repository on GitHub has accumulated over 6,500 stars.[4]
Stagewise was included in Business Insider's 2025 list of "the most exciting AI vibe coding tools from startups coming out of Y Combinator's summer batch," reflecting broader industry interest in AI-assisted code generation tools.
As of 2025, the company is based in Germany and has two employees. Götze serves as CTO, overseeing engineering, product, and design efforts.[5]
