Jota Chamorro is a Spanish software engineer and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) of YouShift, a health technology company that uses artificial intelligence to automate hospital shift scheduling and workforce management. YouShift was part of Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch.[1]

Early life and education

Chamorro is originally from Santander, in the Cantabria region of Spain.[2] He studied computer science and mathematics at Harvard University.[3]

Career

While at Harvard, Chamorro co-founded YouShift alongside fellow Spanish students Lucía Vives Martorell and Adolfo Requero. The company was initially conceived in 2023 as a platform to address inefficiencies in the assignment of medical shifts and on-call schedules in hospitals.[4]

YouShift describes itself as "the OS for hospital workforce management." The platform uses AI to generate optimized shift schedules automatically, replacing legacy scheduling software and reducing the need for dedicated full-time schedulers. The system balances institutional rules, coverage requirements, and individual clinician preferences to produce schedules described as fair and efficient. Additional features include AI scheduling agents that configure rules and collect clinician availability, as well as operations intelligence tools that provide real-time visibility into coverage gaps, workload distribution, and staffing costs.[5]

The company operates in the health tech, HR tech, operations, and AI sectors. YouShift is based in New York, and Chamorro has also been listed as being located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[1]

YouShift received attention in Spanish media beginning in late 2023, with multiple outlets covering the founding team's work on the scheduling platform.[6] In 2025, the Cantabria regional press profiled Chamorro's role in building the company.[7]
