John Ta is an American entrepreneur and co-founder of Affil.ai, an artificial intelligence-powered compliance and monitoring platform for affiliate marketing in the financial services industry. The company was part of the Y Combinator Summer 2024 (S24) batch and is based in San Francisco.[1]

Career

Ta earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania, completing his studies in 2022.[2] Before founding Affil.ai, he served as a Venture Fellow at Ripple Ventures, a pre-seed venture capital fund based in Toronto, where he was part of the firm's RippleX Cohort 8 program.

Ta co-founded Affil.ai to address compliance challenges in external marketing for financial companies. The platform uses artificial intelligence to monitor and review content produced by affiliate marketers, such as online creators who promote financial products like credit cards. Financial services companies are subject to strict marketing regulations, and affiliate-generated content — including articles and videos — must adhere to specific compliance guidelines. Affil.ai automates the process of tracking when affiliates publish or edit content, identifying potential brand and compliance violations within that content, and facilitating communication between brands, affiliate networks, and individual affiliates to resolve issues.

The company operates as a software as a service (SaaS) platform serving business-to-business clients across the financial services, compliance, and marketing sectors. Its core value proposition centers on reducing the manual effort required to review large volumes of affiliate content for regulatory adherence, a task that traditionally demands significant time and resources from compliance teams.

Affil.ai was accepted into Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch and, as of 2025, remains an active company. Ta is listed as an active founder on the company's Y Combinator profile.

Ta speaks English and Vietnamese and has some knowledge of Spanish. He has expressed a personal interest in financial literacy and credit card products.
