Jody Jellison

Jody Jellison is a mycologist affiliated with the University of Maine, known for research on fungal wood decomposition and the biochemical mechanisms by which brown rot and grapevine trunk disease fungi degrade lignocellulose.

Research

Jellison's work focuses on the enzymatic and non-enzymatic pathways used by wood-decay fungi to break down cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, with particular attention to brown rot fungi such as Gloeophyllum trabeum and their generation of reactive oxygen species during lignocellulose deconstruction.[1] Additional research has examined the low molecular weight metabolites secreted by Eutypa and Esca fungal consortia and their role in grapevine wood deterioration and trunk disease pathogenesis.[2]

According to Semantic Scholar, Jellison has authored 87 papers that have collectively been cited 4,255 times, yielding an h-index of 33.[3]

Jellison's research has received support through National Science Foundation awards, including a dissertation research grant on the ecology of fungal wood decomposition and its effect on soil buffering capacity using quantitative real-time PCR, administered through the University of Maine and awarded on July 7, 2006.[4] Jellison also received a travel award through the Japan STA Program in 1990 for research on the biological degradation of cellulose and hemicellulose.[5]
