Joanna Gyory is a researcher affiliated with the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Her published work spans biological oceanography and coral reef ecology, including studies on mesophotic coral ecosystems and thermal refugia for stony corals.[1]

Education

Gyory earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Cornell University in 2001.[2] She received a Master of Science in Marine and Atmospheric Science from SUNY Stony Brook in 2005.[3] She completed a PhD in Biological Oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011.[4] She later earned a Master of Science in Analytics and Data Science from the University of New Hampshire in 2019.[5]

Career

Gyory held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of the Virgin Islands from 2011 to 2014.[6] She then held a postdoctoral fellowship at Tulane University from 2014 to 2016.[7] She joined the University of New Hampshire in 2019.[8]

Research

According to Semantic Scholar, Gyory has published 52 papers that have collectively been cited 623 times, giving her an h-index of 10.[9] Her research on coral ecosystems includes work on mesophotic coral reefs in the Caribbean, depth refugia from coral bleaching, and deep reproductive refugia for shallow-water corals.[10] She has also published on larval transport and release in crustaceans, including studies on blue crab larvae in the Gulf of Mexico during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and barnacle larval release triggered by turbidity and storms.[11]
