Jake Yatvitskiy is an American software engineer and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of Haystack Software, a code review platform that uses artificial intelligence to help developers understand pull requests quickly. The company was part of the Y Combinator Summer 2024 batch.[1]
Early life and education
Yatvitskiy attended the University of Michigan College of Engineering from 2017 to 2021. He subsequently studied at Columbia University from 2021 to 2022.
Career
Prior to founding Haystack Software, Yatvitskiy worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a software engineer. He also held a software engineer intern position at AWS.
In 2024, Yatvitskiy co-founded Haystack Software alongside Akshay Subramaniam. The company, based in New York City, developed a code review platform designed to help software developers understand any pull request in under a minute. Haystack breaks down pull requests into digestible chunks and presents them on an infinite canvas, replacing traditional line-by-line diffs in GitHub with a structured, visual walkthrough. The platform incorporates an AI assistant that has already analyzed the pull request, allowing developers to ask questions and gain understanding of code changes more efficiently.[2]
The product initially began as a canvas-based integrated development environment (IDE) that aimed to automate tedious and mechanical aspects of software development, including code navigation and refactoring. The company later focused on code review as its primary use case, positioning the tool to help developers review and merge code faster without sacrificing quality.
Haystack Software was accepted into Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch and operates in the artificial intelligence, developer tools, B2B, and productivity sectors. At the time of its Y Combinator participation, the company had a team of two people. David Lieb served as the company's group partner at Y Combinator.
Yatvitskiy is based in Seattle, Washington.
