Jack Brown is an American software engineer and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Lark, a software testing platform that allows users to write end-to-end (E2E) tests in plain English using natural language rather than code. Lark is part of Y Combinator's Summer 2025 cohort.[1]

Career

Brown holds a degree in physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.[2] He began his career as a Data Science Intern at Nasdaq, where he worked on machine learning algorithms for predicting customer churn. He subsequently served as a Backend Engineer at LISNR, where he worked on reducing endpoint latency. Brown later held the position of Staff Backend Engineer at Xplor Technologies and served as Lead Software Engineer at Trustworthy, where he designed multi-region AWS architectures serving over 10,000 customers, led SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance efforts, coordinated approximately 70 release cycles, and helped grow the engineering team through hiring.[3]

Brown founded Lark to address challenges associated with writing and maintaining automated software tests. The platform allows users to describe testing workflows in natural language rather than writing code in frameworks such as Playwright. Lark's system uses AI agents to execute tests across multiple surfaces, including user interfaces, APIs, SDKs, and asynchronous workflows. A key feature of the platform is its adaptive testing approach: when a user interface or API changes, Lark adjusts its tests rather than breaking, alerting users to the change instead of requiring test rewrites.[4]

Lark integrates with CI/CD pipelines through native support for GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and other continuous integration tools. Tests can be configured to run on every commit, pull request, or deployment across development, staging, and production environments. The platform also includes secure credential management through encrypted vaults accessible only to ephemeral testing environments.[5]

Brown is based in San Francisco, California.
