Vivek Rao is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder and chief executive officer of Tesora, a software company that builds artificial intelligence-native tools for insurance underwriting and actuarial teams. Tesora was part of Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch.[1]
Career
Prior to founding Tesora, Rao worked at McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting firm, and at Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm with approximately $14 billion in assets under management.[2] He is an alumnus of the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.[3]
Rao co-founded Tesora to address operational inefficiencies in the insurance industry, particularly within actuarial and underwriting departments. The company's core product is an AI-native actuarial workbench designed to assist managing general agents (MGAs) and insurance carriers. Tesora's platform connects disparate internal systems, encodes expert workflows, and aims to eliminate bottlenecks caused by reliance on spreadsheets and email communication throughout the underwriting process — from initial triage through policy binding.[4]
The company positions its product as a tool that allows actuaries to focus on higher-value analytical work rather than manual data processing. The platform includes features for data ingestion, loss ratio review, portfolio management, reinsurance tracking, and team collaboration. Tesora has described its approach as analogous to what Harvey provides for the legal profession, but applied to the insurance sector.[5]
Tesora raised a seed round of funding, which was reported in September 2025.[6] The company was also recognized at the DPW Awards in 2025.[7]
