Gunwoo Kim, also known as Terry, is a software engineer and entrepreneur based in San Francisco, California. He is the co-founder and chief technology officer (CTO) of Cuckoo Labs, a company that develops a real-time AI-powered translation platform for global sales, marketing, and support.[1]
Career
Prior to founding Cuckoo Labs, Gunwoo Kim worked as a senior software engineer, accumulating experience in designing, developing, and deploying scalable software solutions and machine learning models. His technical background includes proficiency in Python, Java, and cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), as well as experience with MLOps practices.
Kim co-founded Cuckoo Labs alongside Yong Hee Lee. The company was part of Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch.[2] Cuckoo Labs builds a real-time AI translation tool designed for use in business contexts, particularly global sales, marketing, and customer support. The platform is used during video conferencing sessions on platforms such as Zoom, as well as in in-person meetings. Notable customers include Snowflake and PagerDuty.
Cuckoo's technology is powered by large language models and is capable of interpreting conversations in over 20 languages. A key feature of the platform is its ability to learn the technical details of a conversation in real time by ingesting user-provided keywords and documents, allowing it to customize translations for specific industries and organizations. This makes the tool applicable to highly technical discussions that general-purpose translation services may struggle to handle accurately.
The platform operates by being invited to a meeting, where it detects the languages being spoken and provides real-time interpretation. Users can brief the system on the meeting's context beforehand to improve accuracy. Cuckoo Labs operates in the artificial intelligence, B2B, sales, and marketing sectors.
Some sources list Kim's title as CEO, while others identify him as co-founder and CTO of Cuckoo Labs.[3]
