Frances Liu is an American technology entrepreneur and co-founder of Promptless, a SaaS company that builds AI agents to automatically update customer-facing documentation. Promptless was part of the Y Combinator Winter 2025 batch.

Career

Liu's career has spanned roles in product management, data science, and startup leadership. She worked at Cloudflare in a product role from 2017 to 2020. She then served as Head of Data Science and Machine Learning at OneSignal, a customer messaging platform, from 2020 to 2022. Following that, she was Head of Product at Graft, an AI infrastructure company, from 2022 to 2023.

In 2023, Liu co-founded Argon AI, which participated in Y Combinator's Winter 2024 batch. She subsequently co-founded Promptless in 2024 alongside Prithvi Ramakrishnan. The company is based in San Francisco.

Promptless develops AI agents designed to eliminate "docs drift" — the problem of customer-facing documentation becoming outdated as products evolve. The platform automatically generates updates to documentation based on signals such as feature releases, support tickets, internal Slack conversations, and other knowledge sources. It integrates with various documentation platforms and can be triggered from multiple workflows. The company positions documentation maintenance as a challenge that affects customer experience, adoption, and retention, and its product is used by both early-stage startups and Fortune 500 enterprises.

Promptless operates in the artificial intelligence, developer tools, and generative AI sectors, offering a B2B SaaS product.

Liu holds a Master of Science degree from Stanford University. She was a Postgraduate Fellow at Harvard University in 2014. She has also served as a board member of Stanford Professional Women through the Stanford Alumni Association since 2023.
