Fern Morrison is an American entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of Iron Grid (also styled IronGrid), a technology company that provides AI-powered insurance and warranty solutions for frontier hardware, including robotics and energy storage systems. The company is backed by Y Combinator (Summer 2025 batch).[1]
Career
Before founding Iron Grid, Morrison spent five years in the battery industry. She worked at Apple and Mitra Chem, where she specialized in materials science and degradation modeling. She also has a background in investment banking, which she has combined with her technical expertise in battery modeling to develop risk assessment solutions for hardware assets.[2]
Morrison holds a master's degree from Stanford University and a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University.[3]
Morrison co-founded Iron Grid with Gabriele Pozzato, who serves as the company's chief technology officer. The company develops specialized insurance products for climate and frontier hardware, using physics-based models combined with AI prediction to create coverage tailored to the specific risks faced by manufacturers and operators of technologies such as energy storage systems and robotics. Iron Grid works with a broker network to distribute its policies to companies seeking coverage for hardware assets.[4]
Iron Grid participated in Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch and subsequently raised a $4 million seed round led by Climactic.[5] The company is based in San Francisco, California.
In 2026, Morrison was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the Manufacturing & Industry category.[6] Iron Grid also received the Stanford SIF-Eco Prize, an award associated with Stanford University's impact entrepreneurship programs.[7]
