Felix Brann is an entrepreneur and the co-founder and chief executive officer of Pharos, a San Francisco-based healthcare technology company that uses artificial intelligence to automate hospital quality reporting and help prevent avoidable patient harm. Pharos was part of Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch.[1]

Career

Brann holds a Bachelor of Science degree and has a research background in areas related to healthcare and artificial intelligence. He has authored academic publications on topics including sepsis-induced muscle dysfunction, the application of natural language processing to emergency department triage, and the safety evaluation of large language model–generated radiology report summaries.[2] His listed research expertise includes sepsis, artificial intelligence, and hospital quality.

Brann co-founded Pharos to address the significant burden of mandatory quality reporting in hospitals. In the existing workflow, clinicians spend thousands of hours manually extracting complex clinical facts from unstructured medical records for regulatory reporting and quality improvement purposes. Pharos developed an AI-powered platform that automates this data extraction process, generating reports and identifying instances where avoidable patient harm is occurring. The company positions its product as a tool for hospital quality and risk teams, enabling them to focus on patient outcomes rather than data gathering.[3]

In October 2024, Pharos announced the close of an oversubscribed $5 million seed funding round led by Felicis Ventures. The funding was intended to support the company's efforts to automate hospital quality reporting and expand its platform.[4][5]

Pharos has engaged with organizations in the hospital quality space, including a keynote presentation at the Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS). The company is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
