Emili Sindlev is a Danish fashion stylist, creative director and content creator based in Copenhagen. Known for a colourful, maximalist personal style that has frequently drawn comparisons to the fictional character Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City, Sindlev rose to prominence through street style coverage at international fashion weeks and built a substantial following on social media in the late 2010s and early 2020s.[1][2] In Denmark she also became a household name beyond fashion circles after appearing on the TV 2 celebrity dance competition Vild med dans, the Danish version of Strictly Come Dancing.[3] In 2025, Sindlev expanded into entrepreneurship with the launch of Odd Balance, her own matcha brand.[4]
Career
Styling and creative direction
Sindlev began her professional career as a fashion stylist working out of Copenhagen. Profiles of her in the late 2010s described her as a stylist whose personal wardrobe and editorial work had attracted attention from international fashion publications. Who What Wear identified her in 2018 as a long-standing source of style inspiration for the publication's UK edition, highlighting in particular her tendency to revisit pieces from her wardrobe in a way the magazine compared to Carrie Bradshaw's recurring outfits in Sex and the City.[1]
Alongside her styling work, Sindlev has been described as a creative director. Vogue Scandinavia, in a 2021 feature, characterised her as a "Danish fashion stylist and creative director" whose work and personal image had brought her into the orbit of Scandinavian fashion media.[3] V Magazine, profiling her in 2023, referred to her as a "Copenhagen-based creative" who was by then attending international designer shows as an invited guest.[2]
Social media and street style
Sindlev built a public profile primarily through fashion week street style coverage and social media. By the early 2020s she was regularly photographed during the fashion weeks of Copenhagen, Paris, Milan, New York and Los Angeles, and her outfits became a recurring subject of editorial coverage in Vogue Scandinavia and other publications.[2][5]
Her aesthetic has been consistently described in the fashion press as colourful and maximalist. V Magazine characterised her in 2023 as "known for her joyous, colorful approach to fashion (and her perfect curly hair)" when reporting on her attendance at the Versace Fall/Winter 2023 show in Los Angeles.[2] The same year, Vogue Scandinavia covered her appearance at the Roskilde Festival, noting that her outfit channelled a Carrie Bradshaw-inspired clingy grey mini-dress.[6]
The Carrie Bradshaw comparison has been a persistent thread in coverage of Sindlev. In February 2024, Vogue Scandinavia ran a feature titled "Emili Sindlev's Carrie Bradshaw inspired NYFW street style," writing that her appearance on the streets of New York during fashion week was "uncannily" reminiscent of the character.[7] Earlier that month, the publication had documented her look at the Saks Potts Autumn/Winter 2024 show on the first day of Copenhagen Fashion Week, describing it as a "masterclass" in styling animal print.[5]
By the mid-2020s, Sindlev had become a recurring reference point in international guides to fashion influencer culture. A March 2025 feature published via Yahoo Lifestyle listed her among five Europe-based influencers followed by the author to identify emerging designer items, illustrating its mention with a photograph of Sindlev in a Loewe outfit.[8]
Television
In 2020, Sindlev competed on Vild med dans, the Danish adaptation of the international Dancing with the Stars franchise, which is broadcast on TV 2 and is part of the same format family as the British series Strictly Come Dancing.[3] Vogue Scandinavia, recalling her run on the show in a September 2021 article, wrote that Sindlev had "twirled her way into our living rooms with a coveted spot on Vild med dans" the previous year.[3] The programme, which has aired for more than twenty seasons on TV 2, pairs Danish public figures with professional dancers in a weekly competition judged by a panel.
In 2021, Sindlev returned to Danish television in a new reality format. Vogue Scandinavia announced in September of that year that she would star in her own reality show, telling readers "here's what you need to know" about the project and contextualising it as the next step after her Vild med dans appearance.[3]
Odd Balance
In August 2025, Sindlev launched her own matcha brand, Odd Balance. Vogue Scandinavia covered the launch, describing the brand as offering "a fresh, bold take on the wellness world's hottest drink" and framing it as Sindlev's entry into the consumer wellness market.[4] The launch marked her first publicly reported venture as a brand founder, extending her professional activity from styling and content creation into product entrepreneurship.
Personal Life
Sindlev is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she has lived and worked throughout her public career.[2][1] Public coverage of her has focused on her professional work in fashion and media rather than on her private life, and details about her family background and personal relationships have not been the subject of substantial reporting in the sources surveyed for this article. She has been photographed at fashion events internationally, including in Copenhagen, New York, Paris and Los Angeles.[2][7][5]
Recognition
Sindlev's recognition within the fashion industry has come primarily through sustained editorial coverage rather than through formal awards. Vogue Scandinavia has profiled her repeatedly since the magazine's founding, covering her street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week and the Roskilde Festival, as well as her television appearances and her business ventures.[3][7][5][6][4] V Magazine has covered her attendance at international designer events, including the Versace Fall/Winter 2023 show in Los Angeles.[2]
Her status as a reference figure for fashion-watchers outside Scandinavia has been reflected in coverage by English-language publications. Who What Wear described her as "long ... a source of style inspiration" for its UK edition in 2018, citing in particular her habit of restyling and re-wearing pieces in a way the magazine compared to Carrie Bradshaw.[1] By 2025, she had been included in international roundups of European fashion influencers used as indicators of emerging designer trends.[8]
The Carrie Bradshaw comparison itself has become a feature of her public image, recurring across publications and years. Who What Wear titled its 2018 profile "Meet the Woman Who Dresses Like Carrie Bradshaw Every Day," and Vogue Scandinavia returned to the comparison in features in 2023 and 2024.[1][6][7]
