Dylan McFarland is an American entrepreneur and co-founder of Terra, a platform that enables creators and brands to design, sample, and sell their own products with no upfront costs or minimum order requirements. Terra was part of the Y Combinator Summer 2024 batch.[1]
Early life and background
McFarland was born and raised in Los Angeles. He has described having diverse interests including mechanics, art, and general tinkering, which informed his approach to product design and building. As of May 2025, McFarland was 21 years old, indicating he co-founded Terra at approximately age 20.
Career
McFarland co-founded Terra in 2024 alongside Lev Glushkovskii. The company, based in New York, was created to simplify the process of product design, manufacturing, and sourcing, initially targeting small and medium-sized businesses and later focusing heavily on content creators and influencer-led brands.[2]
Terra's platform allows users to design custom products from scratch or customize existing ones using the company's software tools. Users can order samples for approximately $500, and once satisfied, launch a branded online storefront through the platform. Terra handles all manufacturing, fulfillment, logistics, and customer support, while creators retain all profits above Terra's manufacturing costs. The company emphasizes that it uses the same factories as established, well-known brands and operates on a made-to-order model, eliminating financial risk for sellers.
The platform markets itself as an alternative to affiliate marketing commissions, positioning product ownership as a more profitable model for creators. According to Terra's website, the platform serves creators with a combined following of over 15 million across social media.
Terra participated in Y Combinator's Summer 2024 batch with Diana Hu serving as Group Partner. The company raised a $500,000 seed round in August 2024, with Y Combinator among its investors. Terra has also received backing from Floodgate and KyberKnight.
In May 2025, McFarland and Glushkovskii appeared together on the podcast People in THIS Moment, hosted by Jacqueline Strayer, where they discussed Terra's business model and their experiences as young entrepreneurs building a global e-commerce company.
