David Neivandt is a chemical engineer and academic at the University of Maine, where he holds a faculty position in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. His research has focused on sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy and on the production and characterization of cellulose nanofibrils.
Education
Neivandt received a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Melbourne, where he studied from 1989 to 1993.[1] He continued at the University of Melbourne for his Ph.D. in Chemistry, completed in 1999 after study from 1994 to 1999.[2]
Career
From 1998 to 2001, Neivandt held an Oppenheimer Research Fellowship in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge.[3]
In 2001, he joined the University of Maine's Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, progressing through the ranks of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor.[4] He served as Director of the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering at the University of Maine from 2013 to 2018.[5] From 2014 to 2018, he also served as Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies in the university's Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.[6]
Research
According to Semantic Scholar, Neivandt has authored 67 papers that have collectively been cited 1,753 times, giving an h-index of 21.[7] His work has included studies applying sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy to thin films, monolayers, and nanoparticle surfaces, as well as later research on the nonconventional fibrillation of cellulose nanofibrils and their industrial-scale processing.[8]
He received a National Science Foundation award for the REU Site "Explore It! Building the Next Generation of Sustainable Forest Bioproduct Researchers," totaling $520,000, awarded to the University of Maine beginning August 7, 2011.[9]
