Daniel Gauci (also referred to as Daniel Gauci Mizzi in some sources) is a technology entrepreneur and co-founder of Roark, a software company that provides testing, monitoring, and quality assurance tools for voice AI agents. Roark was accepted into Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch.[1]
Career
Gauci co-founded Roark alongside James Zammit, who serves as the company's CEO. The company is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and operates in the analytics, artificial intelligence, and conversational AI sectors.[1]
Roark addresses reliability challenges in the rapidly growing voice AI industry. The platform serves as a quality assurance layer for teams building and deploying voice agents, offering three core capabilities: monitoring and evaluation, simulation and testing, and a feedback loop that converts failed calls into repeatable tests.[2]
The monitoring component provides over 40 built-in metrics, including latency measurement, instruction-following analysis, repetition detection, and sentiment tracking. It supports analysis of calls with up to 15 speakers through automatic speaker identification. Users can also define custom metrics and configure alerts and dashboards.[2]
The simulation feature allows teams to run end-to-end phone and WebSocket simulations for both inbound and outbound voice agents. Users can configure personas with different accents, languages, and behavioral profiles, and define test scenarios using a graph-based approach to explore edge cases and conversation variants.[1]
As of mid-2025, Roark had processed over 10 million minutes of voice calls. The company's clients include several voice AI teams, with listed customers such as Aircall, Podium, Radiant Graph, Strala, and BrainCX, as well as other Y Combinator companies.[2]
Gauci and Zammit have ties to Malta. Their acceptance into Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch was noted in Maltese media in January 2025.
