Career
Early career
Töws studied electrical engineering at DHBW Mosbach, where he worked with Rheinmetall on automotive technology and embedded systems. His academic work focused on functional safety in automotive embedded software, an area governed by strict safety standards. He subsequently worked at Miele, where he led the development of a componentization framework for embedded software.[2]
Stagewise
Töws transitioned from embedded systems and hardware engineering to AI and web technology, co-founding Stagewise. The company develops a browser-based development tool that integrates a coding agent directly into the browsing environment. The product is designed to allow web developers to interact with their running applications in the browser while an AI agent makes changes to the underlying codebase. Key features include full access to browser developer tools such as the console and debugger across all tabs, and the ability to make either temporary experimental changes to any web page or permanent edits when connected to a local codebase.[3]
Stagewise has an open-source component hosted on GitHub, which had accumulated over 6,500 stars as of early 2025.[4] The company was accepted into Y Combinator's S25 batch.
The company operates with a small team based in Bielefeld, Germany.
