The Texas Legislature is the state legislature of Texas, consisting of the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate. Established when Texas joined the United States in 1845, the bicameral body meets in regular session biennially for 140 days, convening in odd-numbered years at the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The House comprises 150 members serving two-year terms, while the Senate has 31 members serving four-year terms.

Members of the Texas Legislature have historically included individuals who went on to significant careers in federal politics, business, and public service. The part-time nature of the legislature, with its limited session schedule and modest compensation, has traditionally attracted citizens from diverse professional backgrounds including law, business, education, and agriculture.
