The neutral encyclopedia of notable people

Sinjar District is an administrative region in northern Iraq's Nineveh Governorate, located near the Syrian border. The district encompasses the town of Sinjar and surrounding areas at the base of the Sinjar Mountains, which have served as a historic refuge and cultural center for the Yazidi religious minority. The region's economy has traditionally been based on agriculture, livestock herding, and small-scale trade.

The district gained international attention in 2014 when ISIS attacked Yazidi communities, leading to genocide and mass displacement of the population. Despite this tragedy, Sinjar remains significant as the heartland of Yazidi culture and religion, with many of its notable figures contributing to the preservation of Yazidi traditions, advocacy for minority rights, and efforts toward post-conflict recovery and reconciliation.
