Astor is a participant in Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch and is registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as an investment advisor.[1]
Early life and education
Koba holds Bachelor of Engineering degrees from the Universidade de São Paulo and the Shibaura Institute of Technology in Tokyo. He later earned an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.[2]
Career
Prior to founding Astor, Koba held positions at Nubank, the Brazilian digital banking company, and at Monashees, a Latin American venture capital firm.[3]
Koba co-founded Astor alongside Daniel Tulha, who previously worked at Stripe and Robinhood. The company is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.[4]
Astor
Astor operates as an AI investment advisor targeting retail investors. The platform connects to users' existing brokerage accounts via Plaid, analyzes their holdings, and provides personalized investment guidance. Features include portfolio analysis, tailored investment recommendations, and market news filtered to a user's specific holdings. The service is available as a mobile application on Apple's App Store.[5]
According to the company, Astor's AI agents identify investment opportunities, interpret market trends, and deliver analysis customized to individual investors. The platform positions itself as addressing a gap in the market: while retail investors account for approximately 25 percent of all U.S. trading volume — roughly double the share from 2012 — over 56 percent report lacking confidence in their investment decisions.[6]
As of its public launch, Astor reported more than 3,000 users and over $60 million in connected portfolio assets.[7] The company operates in the artificial intelligence, financial technology, investing, and consumer finance sectors.
