Brady Bluhm (born July 6, 1983) is an American former child actor best known for two distinct strands of work in 1990s and 2000s family entertainment: providing the voice of Christopher Robin in several Winnie the Pooh productions released by Walt Disney Television Animation between 1997 and 2005, and playing the small but memorable role of "Billy in 4C," the blind child who unwittingly buys a headless parakeet from Jim Carrey's character, in the 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber. Bluhm reprised the role of Billy two decades later in the 2014 sequel Dumb and Dumber To, after the Farrelly brothers tracked him down through Facebook to invite him back to the franchise.[1] Bluhm also held a recurring supporting role on the Fox sitcom Get a Life starring Chris Elliott. After stepping away from on-camera work as a teenager, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile and later settled in Rancho Cucamonga, California, where he has worked in security systems sales since 2008.[2]
Early Life
Brady Bluhm was born on July 6, 1983.[3] He was raised in Southern California, and entered the entertainment industry as a young child, taking on television and film roles by the age of seven.[4] Bluhm was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a faith background that would later inform a significant period of his post-acting life when he served a full-time mission in Chile.[5]
In a later interview, Bluhm recalled that he had begun acting work very early in childhood, and that by the time he was cast in Dumb and Dumber at age ten he was already a working child actor with several screen credits behind him.[1] He described the audition and shooting experience for the 1994 film matter-of-factly, noting that he was unaware at the time of the cultural footprint the film would have, and that the "Pretty Bird" scene with Jim Carrey was filmed across a single day on location.[1] Members of his immediate family supported his early career, accompanying him to auditions and shoots during the years he was most active in voice and on-camera work.[2]
Career
Early television work
Bluhm's early credits in the late 1980s and early 1990s included guest appearances on American network television. He held a recurring supporting role on the Fox comedy series Get a Life, which starred Chris Elliott and aired from 1990 to 1992.[4][6] The role placed him in a regular ensemble setting at a young age and was among his most prominent live-action assignments prior to Dumb and Dumber.
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
At age ten, Bluhm was cast as Billy, identified in the script as the young blind boy living in apartment 4C, in the Farrelly brothers' 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber.[1] In the scene that became one of the film's signature comedic moments, Carrey's character, Lloyd Christmas, sells Billy a parakeet whose head has accidentally been knocked off and reattached with adhesive tape, telling the boy, "Pretty bird. Can you say pretty bird?"[1][7] The single scene became widely quoted by fans of the film, and Bluhm has said in subsequent interviews that strangers still recite the line to him.[1]
Although Bluhm appeared on screen only briefly, the role gave him a lasting association with the film. He told Business Insider in 2014 that he had not anticipated the long tail of recognition the part would carry and that he had largely moved past acting by the time the sequel was announced.[1]
Voice work as Christopher Robin
Beginning in 1997, Bluhm provided the voice of Christopher Robin in a series of Walt Disney productions based on A. A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh characters. His first such credit was Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin, a direct-to-video animated feature released in August 1997 in which Christopher Robin's friends set out to find him after he leaves for school.[8] He continued in the role across additional Disney projects through the early 2000s, including direct-to-video features and television specials produced through Walt Disney Television Animation.[8] His final credit as Christopher Robin came in 2005, after which the role passed to other voice actors in subsequent Disney Pooh productions.[8]
Bluhm has said that the voice work, recorded in studios in the Los Angeles area, was a steady source of acting employment through his adolescence and overlapped with the period in which he was transitioning out of on-camera child roles.[5] The Christopher Robin credits represent the bulk of his filmography by volume, even though he is most often publicly identified with his on-camera Dumb and Dumber role.[8][4]
Departure from acting and mission service
After completing his Winnie the Pooh voice work, Bluhm stepped away from professional acting. As a young adult he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Concepción, Chile, an assignment that lasted approximately two years.[5][2] Following his return from the mission, he briefly resumed voice acting before leaving the entertainment industry entirely.[5]
Since 2008, Bluhm has worked as a security systems salesman based in Southern California.[2] In interviews he has described the transition out of acting as a deliberate choice, citing a preference for a more stable family life and a desire to step out of the spotlight associated with child stardom.[1][2]
Return for Dumb and Dumber To (2014)
Bluhm's return to acting came as a one-time cameo in Dumb and Dumber To, the 2014 sequel to the original film. According to interviews with Bluhm and reporting at the time of the film's release, the Farrelly brothers, Peter and Bobby, located him through Facebook and reached out directly to invite him to reprise the role of Billy two decades after the original.[1][7] News of the casting was reported in September 2013 alongside the announcement that Kathleen Turner had also joined the production.[9]
Bluhm, then 30 years old, traveled to the production for a brief shoot. He told Business Insider that the experience of returning to the set with Carrey and Jeff Daniels, both of whom he had not seen in twenty years, was straightforward and that the directors had structured the cameo as a callback to the original "Pretty Bird" sequence.[1] The cameo was his first on-camera acting work in many years and, as of subsequent reporting, remains his most recent screen credit.[4][6]
Personal Life
Bluhm lives in Rancho Cucamonga, California, with his wife, Abbie, and the couple's two children.[2] The Bluhms have for several years participated in the annual Living Nativity event staged at a church in Rancho Cucamonga during the Christmas season, taking on roles in the community pageant; a 2014 feature in the Daily Bulletin profiled their involvement and noted that they had been part of the production for four consecutive years at that time.[2]
Bluhm was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission for the church in Concepción, Chile, in young adulthood.[5] He has since spoken publicly about a shift in his religious views, describing himself as a former member of the church in podcast interviews discussing faith transitions.[5] He has spoken about his religious background and post-mission life in interviews with podcasts focused on Latter-day Saint faith and culture.[5]
Outside of his sales career, Bluhm has occasionally appeared at fan events and conventions connected to Dumb and Dumber, where audiences have continued to associate him with the "Pretty Bird" scene long after his departure from acting.[1]

Recognition
Bluhm has not been the subject of major industry awards, but the Billy role in Dumb and Dumber has remained a recurring point of pop-culture interest, generating periodic media coverage long after his retirement from acting. Coverage of his cameo in Dumb and Dumber To in 2014 appeared in outlets including Business Insider, NME, and the Daily Mirror, each of which framed the return as a notable "where are they now" moment for a memorable bit player in a film that had become a comedy touchstone.[1][9][7] Business Insider's account in particular emphasized the unusual circumstance of the Farrelly brothers contacting a former child actor directly through social media to bring him back for the sequel.[1]
Within the voice-acting community, Bluhm's tenure as Christopher Robin is catalogued by reference sites such as Behind the Voice Actors, which lists him among the actors who have voiced the character across the long history of Disney's Winnie the Pooh productions.[8] His local community in Rancho Cucamonga has also recognized his post-acting volunteer work, with the Daily Bulletin profiling his participation in the annual Living Nativity event.[2]
