Bindu Panikkar is an environmental health researcher and Associate Professor at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.[1] Her work addresses environmental health, occupational health among immigrant and low-wage workers, energy justice, and climate change impacts in Arctic communities.[2]

Education

Panikkar completed graduate work in environmental health at Tufts University.[3]

Career

Panikkar has served as Associate Professor in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont since 2022.[4]

Research

According to Semantic Scholar, Panikkar has published 38 papers that have collectively been cited 510 times, giving her an h-index of 14.[5] Her research has covered topics including the health effects of depleted uranium exposure, ethical issues in uranium mining research on Navajo Nation lands, occupational health disparities among low-wage immigrant workers, community-led responses to PFAS contamination of drinking water, energy justice in renewable energy transition policy, and climate change and food sovereignty in Nunavut.[6]

Panikkar has received three grants from the National Science Foundation totaling $302,219. This includes a 2022 award of $80,000 to the University of Vermont for a project titled "NNA Incubator: Collaborative Research: Sustainable Transitions through Arctic Redevelopment (STAR)," a 2016 postdoctoral research award of $72,459 to the University of Vermont for "Science and the Permitting Process for Resource Extraction," and a 2013 postdoctoral research award of $149,760 to Northeastern University for the same project.[7]
