Angela Oakley is an American television personality who burst onto the public stage as a cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, a reality series that airs on Bravo. She's married to Charles Oakley, a former professional basketball player who spent 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), most notably with the New York Knicks. Her appearances on the show thrust her into the center of various interpersonal conflicts, including well-publicized clashes with fellow cast member Phaedra Parks and on-screen discussions about her marriage and finances. Before television found her, she worked in the financial services industry. Then came a lifetime bar from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Her presence on reality television has drawn significant media attention to both her personal life and the legal troubles surrounding her husband.

Career

Financial services and FINRA bar

Angela Oakley worked in the financial services industry before becoming a television personality. According to FINRA's public BrokerCheck database, she received a lifetime bar from FINRA, the self-regulatory organization that oversees broker-dealers and their registered representatives in the United States.[1] A lifetime bar means one thing: permanent expulsion. No one can associate with any FINRA-member firm after that. The bar stemmed from findings related to her conduct in the industry.

Among the documented allegations was that Oakley obtained a $17,000 loan using her grandmother's identity without authorization, with the loan proceeds used to pay her mortgage and split with a cousin, with no repayment to her grandmother.[2] Once she joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the lifetime bar became a topic of intense public discussion. Viewers and media commentators questioned the vetting processes employed by production companies before casting members with regulatory histories like hers.

Real estate

Oakley has been involved in real estate investment, including house flipping. These activities became a storyline on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. During the show, it was disclosed that she'd sustained approximately $2 million in losses connected to house foreclosures.[3] That revelation added a significant financial dimension to her storyline. It also sparked broader public discussion about her background and business history.

Television career

Oakley became a cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, a long-running reality series on the Bravo network. Her participation brought her considerable media attention, particularly regarding her interactions with other cast members and the storylines surrounding her personal life and finances.

During Season 16, she became involved in a notable on-screen conflict with fellow cast member Phaedra Parks. The dispute was a significant storyline and continued generating media coverage well after the season aired. By September 2025, Parks offered a public update on her relationship with Oakley, addressing the status of their disagreement.[4]

The conflict continued into the Season 19 reunion, during which host Andy Cohen got involved in mediating the dispute. Cohen's intervention during the reunion taping drew additional attention to the disagreement.[5]

In June 2025, Oakley appeared on The Real Housewives of Atlanta After Show, where she discussed a cheating allegation involving her husband. During the segment, she described confronting Charles about the rumors and stated she was "trying to hold it together" in the aftermath of the on-screen revelations.[6]

She also spoke publicly about her age in a June 2025 exclusive with Bravo. "It took me a while to get here," she said, in reference to her personal journey and comfort with discussing it.[7] When April 2026 rolled around, Oakley commented on cast dynamics, weighing in on the relationship between cast members Porsha and Shamea. Reconciliation between the two? That would require an "act of God."[8]

Personal life

Angela is married to Charles Oakley, a former NBA power forward who played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards, and Houston Rockets during a career spanning from 1985 to 2004.[9] The Cavaliers selected him ninth overall in the 1985 NBA Draft. Over 19 seasons, he became one of the most recognized rebounders and defensive players of his era.[10]

The couple's relationship became a recurring subject of public discussion after Angela's appearances on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. According to a November 2025 report, Angela and Charles "argued every day" following her first season, indicating that the pressures of reality television had a significant impact on their home life.[11] She also discussed the dynamic between her husband and fellow cast member K. Michelle, noting that the two had developed a rapport.[12]

In January 2026, Angela shared an update on her marriage via social media. "Thankful." That single word captured her feelings about their relationship, providing a public signal about the state of things following a period of heightened media scrutiny.[13] She's continued to share updates since then, offering further insight into how the couple navigated the challenges brought on by her television career.[14]

Charles Oakley has remained a public figure in his own right. In November 2025, it was reported that he'd been ordered to pay $642,337 in legal fees to the Madison Square Garden Company and its affiliates. The debt stemmed from a legal dispute connected to a 2017 incident where he was involved in an altercation with security personnel at Madison Square Garden during a New York Knicks game.[15] That 2017 incident had been widely covered in the media at the time. Charles described the altercation in detail in the days that followed.[16][17]

Charles Oakley's career background

He attended Virginia Union University, where he played college basketball from 1981 to 1985. The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him ninth overall in 1985, but he began his professional career with the Chicago Bulls. In 1988, he was traded to the New York Knicks in exchange for Bill Cartwright, according to The New York Times.[18] Oakley spent 10 seasons with the Knicks, becoming one of the franchise's most recognized players during the 1990s. In 1998, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Marcus Camby.[19]

Over his 19-season career, he accumulated 12,417 points (9.7 per game), 12,205 rebounds (9.5 per game), and 3,217 assists (2.5 per game).[20] After retiring, he served as an assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2010–2011 season.[21] In 2016, he was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.[22]

Beyond basketball, he's been involved in business ventures. He operated a car wash business in the New York area, a venture documented in coverage from The New York Times and Crain's New York Business.[23][24]
