Alex Tkachenko is a technology entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Fira, an artificial intelligence platform designed to assist investment firms with financial research. The company is backed by Y Combinator.[1]
Early life and education
Tkachenko grew up with an interest in technology, building projects such as mobile applications from an early age. He studied computer science at Southern Federal University, earning a bachelor's degree.[2] During his undergraduate studies, he took a gap year to intern in the United States and spent a semester as an exchange student in Germany. After completing his degree, he turned down other opportunities, including a final onsite interview with Google in Paris, to pursue building his own companies.
Tkachenko left Russia the day after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.[3]
Career
Before founding Fira, Tkachenko created Hodler, a cryptocurrency portfolio-tracking application, which he successfully sold. He also launched Hashscan, a blockchain analytics startup.
Tkachenko subsequently founded Fira, which provides an AI-powered research assistant tailored for the finance industry. The platform allows investment professionals to delegate financial research tasks to an AI system that can work across multiple data sources, including market data, SEC filings, earnings call transcripts, and proprietary documents uploaded by users. Fira supports tasks such as trading comparable analyses, equity-value-to-enterprise-value bridge calculations, and cross-referencing numbers in company presentations against public filings. Users can connect the platform to cloud storage services including Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Box.[4]
In March 2025, Fira integrated the Quartr API to incorporate earnings call transcripts and public filings into its research capabilities.[5]
Tkachenko is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
