Alejandro Salinas is a software engineer and entrepreneur based in New York City. He is the co-founder of Locata, a health technology company that provides AI-driven referral automation for primary care providers. Locata was part of the Y Combinator Summer 2025 batch.[1]
Career
Before founding Locata, Salinas worked at Meta (formerly Facebook), where he held positions as a software engineer from 2021 to 2024 and was subsequently promoted to senior software engineer, a role he held from 2024 to 2025. Prior to his full-time employment at Meta, he completed a software engineering internship at Facebook in 2020. Salinas also served as a researcher at Stanford University School of Medicine in 2020–2021.[2]
Salinas co-founded Locata in 2025. The company develops agentic automation tools designed to streamline the referral process in primary care settings. According to the company, its platform automates multiple steps in the referral workflow, including the generation and submission of referral authorizations pre-filled with patient data, real-time delivery of authorization results into electronic health record (EHR) systems, automated patient communication regarding referral status and appointments, secure transmission of medical documents and referral forms to specialists, and automated retrieval of specialist consult notes for follow-up care.[3]
The company's website states that Locata was created by AI experts with backgrounds at Stanford Medicine, Google, Meta, and Stanford University.[4] The platform is aimed at reducing the administrative burden on primary care staff, allowing them to focus on higher-value clinical tasks. By automating authorization submissions, status tracking, and document handling, Locata addresses inefficiencies in the referral loop that can lead to delays in patient care and increased operational costs for medical practices.
Locata is backed by Y Combinator as part of the Summer 2025 cohort.[5]
