Abhi Aiyer is a software engineer and entrepreneur known as the founder of Mastra, an open-source TypeScript framework for building AI-powered applications and agents.[1]
Career
Prior to founding Mastra, Aiyer worked as a tech lead at Gatsby, a web development framework company. During that period, he was active in the GraphQL community and co-hosted GraphQL Radio, a podcast in which he and Max Stoiber (CEO of Stellate) interviewed experts from the GraphQL ecosystem.[2] He has also written about GraphQL practices, including coverage of how Facebook organizes its GraphQL code.[3]
Aiyer subsequently founded Mastra, which provides an all-in-one TypeScript framework for developers building AI agents and applications. The framework offers components for constructing agents, workflows, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), memory management, tool integration, Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, and evaluation systems. Mastra is installable via npm and includes a local development server and a developer studio for iterating on and visualizing agent logic and workflows. The platform also incorporates observability features intended to help developers tune context, improve recall, and test agent performance.[4]
Mastra has been noted in industry coverage related to broader trends in AI-assisted software development. A 2025 Semafor article on the rise of "vibe coding" and AI coding assistants referenced the shifting landscape in which frameworks like Mastra operate.[5] The framework was also mentioned in The New Stack's coverage of developer skills and trends for 2025.[6]
In April 2025, Mastra organized a "TypeScript AI Demo Day" event held in San Francisco and online, aimed at showcasing AI applications built with TypeScript.
