Editorial Policy
This page sets out how Biography Wiki decides what to publish, how entries are sourced, and how corrections are handled. It applies to every article on the site.
Notability Criteria
A person is eligible for an entry if they have a verifiable, meaningful public record in at least one of the following areas:
- Held a business leadership role (executive, founder, or investor) at a company or fund of public record
- Held or holds elected or senior appointed public office
- Received significant recognition in science, law, journalism, the arts, or academia, including honors such as a Nobel Prize
- Is the subject of substantial coverage in independent, published sources unconnected to the subject
Notability is judged on the public record, not on how the subject or their representatives describe themselves. A biography submitted or suggested by a subject's PR team, publicist, or employer is treated as a lead to check, not as a source in itself.
Sourcing Standard
Every factual claim in an article should be traceable to one of the following:
- A primary source: a court filing, government record, regulatory disclosure, company filing, or the subject's own dated public statement
- An independent secondary source: reporting or reference material published by an outlet with no financial or personal relationship to the subject
Claims that rely solely on a subject's own promotional materials, an unlinked press release, or an unverifiable social media post are not sufficient on their own and are either removed or rewritten to note the limitation. Quotes are used only when they can be attributed to a specific, checkable source; a quote that cannot be sourced is not used.
What Gets Removed
Content is removed or rewritten when it is unsourced, sourced only to the subject's own promotional material, defamatory, or based on speculation. Accurate, properly sourced information is not removed simply because a subject or their representative objects to it; see the correction process below for how to raise a factual dispute.
Correction Process
If you believe an entry contains a factual error, contact the editorial team through the wiki's contact form and identify the specific claim and, where possible, a source that supports the correction. Corrections are evaluated against the sourcing standard above. Requests to remove accurate, sourced information are not correction requests and are handled separately; see the general disclaimer.
Conflicts of Interest
Editors who have a personal or financial relationship with an article's subject are expected to disclose it and avoid making unilateral editorial decisions on that article. Biography Wiki does not accept payment from subjects or their representatives for content, edits, or placement of any kind.
