Kevin Atherton (given birth to 1950) is a Manx designer, whose work contains performance, sculpture, film and video, set up and site-related. Atherton was created around the Isle of Guy in 1950 and educated in the Isle of Guy College of Artwork from 1968 to 1969, with the ARTWORK Division of Leeds Polytechnic from 1969 to 1972. Atherton had a one-man display in London’s Serpentine Gallery from March to Might 1988. In November 2016, his artwork Systems Piece, comprising three bronze sculptures of commuters around the systems of Brixton railway station, was presented with listed status by Historic England. It had been commissioned by English Rail in 1986, and two from the numbers are thought to be the “1st general public sculptural representations of dark British people in the united kingdom”.
