David Byrne (footballer, born 1960)


David Byrne can be an English-born South African soccer trainer and previous professional participant. He is at 1982 and 1984 a high ten scorer in the UNITED STATES Soccer League.



The son of former Britain international and West Ham United star Johnny Byrne, Byrne was created in Britain, but raised in Cape Town. In 1979, Byrne relocated to america where he became a member of the Atlanta Chiefs simply with time for the 1979–1980 UNITED STATES Soccer League in house season. He continuing to try out for the Chiefs until 1981 when he transferred to the Toronto Blizzard where he performed one in house and three outdoor periods. He completed the 1982 period ninth in the credit scoring list with 39 factors in 32 video games. He led the group in helps as Blizzard teammates (and fellow South Africans) Neill Roberts and Ace Ntsoelengoe completed seventh and 8th respectively in credit scoring. He completed 1983 6th with 44 factors in 29 video games and 1984 seventh with 37 factors in 20 video games. Bryne was called towards the NASL All-League Second Group in both 1983 and 1984. He was the league's 35th all period scorer with 142 factors in 135 video games. Byrne also performed briefly in Portugal. He performed 14 situations for Estoril in 1983–1984 credit scoring once, and 19 video games and 1 objective for Belenenses in 1984–1985. In 1985, Byrne agreed upon using the Minnesota Strikers from the Main Indoor Soccer Group and was the league's 11th leading scorer for the 1987–88 period. In 1989, he performed for the Toronto Blizzard from the CSL and spent two summers in the APSL using the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Throughout that same period he performed for the Baltimore Blast and Wichita Wings from the MISL, which performed during the winter season. He later performed in South Africa with Hellenic in 1994 and joined up with Santos in 1998–1999.

National team

In 1994, Byrne received a Southern Africa U-23 cap as an overaged participant and was twice called up to the nationwide side but didn't win any caps.


For days gone by decade Byrne continues to be an assistant coach with South African clubs. He offers his 1st stint with Slot Elizabeth part Michau Warriors, in 1997. He 1998–99 he was player-coach of Santos. In 2001, he became associate coach of Dark Leopards and in 2003 the club's caretaker supervisor. From then on he handled Avendale Athletico before becoming dismissed in November 2004.David's brother Tag Byrne is a past pro player, supervisor in South Africa and past head trainer of Italian golf club Udinese's training academy.
